Wel, considering the bike he's doing it on...  :imaposer:

What I do like about this show, is how he's promoting South Africa. Maybe it'll help offset some negative perceptions abroad.  :thumleft:

Don't watch it again.

I love his programs. It's about travelling on a bike. My two greatest passions combined.

First, Henry should learn to pronounce local place names, if not perfectly then at least a damn sight better. It's not that difficult and it shows respect.
Two, on the face of it he does seem to make a big deal of riding a couple of hundred kays, but alright, maybe that's tied up with making a TV show that's also a travelogue.
And then there's the bike. It pisses me off, no, it makes me fucking angry to hear him dissing it before he'd even thrown a leg over it. If that's the way he felt why didn't he choose a modern electronic masterpiece in the first place? Admittedly he was badly let down by the useless wankers who threw it together. Despite the impressive look of their manufacturing facility, and the impression of being dedicated craftsmen they made a disgusting botch up.
I'm well aware of the shortcomings of those old Triumph twins, and I know well from years of personal experience how they can be transformed into a different bike by skilled and meticulous assembly. There is no reason why that machine could not have carried it's rider across and around the whole of South Africa without a moment's trouble, or a  single drop of oil leaked.
As for having to limit his cruising speed to 60mph/100km.hr, that's bloody ridiculous and the machine must be woefully undergeared. On normal road gearing he should be cruising comfortably at 130km/hr, with a maximum of around 175.
And having to stop and refuel from a jerry can every 90 kays? How bloody stupid! Once again my experience tells that he should be getting at least 50 miles per gallon, and some rough math in my head reckons that a moderate sized gas tank of around 16 litres should give him a range of
about 250km.
Anyway, from what I remember of the pre- publicity of the programme, he ends up changing the Metisse desert racer for a KTM, which also subsequently lets him down. I'll carry on watching with interest.
Succumb not to the erosion of those born of unconsecrated union.

"Two Wheels, an engine and a place to sit." What more do you need?

2021 a milestone. 60 years a biker.

I have enjoyed all his travelogues, he never claims to be hard core rider but enjoys the ride. :thumleft:

ITs interesting on a global scale, lets not forget that..... He is punting SA in a big way, and we all know the revenue that tourism brings to our shores. He is riding a crappy bike, but its all part n parcel of the show.

if u don't like it, don't watch it - simple...

Agree, we just love his programs, have seen all of them. Love his presenting style and his admiration for anything biking.
Perhaps his Metisse was not the best choice for the route he took. To me that bike look like it will be more at home as a home-to-shop-for-a-packet-of-smokes-and-back-runaround. However, I do like the look of the bike.

It is refreshing to have a Pom that is so pro SA, and is doing a seriously good job of promoting our fair land  :thumleft:

It could have very easily gone the other way and ended as a bitching session. He's travelling to see the country, and not turning it into an iron-butt ride, so smaller distances give someone who is not from this country a chance to see the sights, sometimes from the seat of a motorcycle.

If we can attract more motorcycle vistors to this country, it can only be good.

I'd invite him to a braai.

I enjoy his shows. He is doing a good job at promoting our country.

The show is on the travel channel and if it was about hardcore biking it would have been on the discovery channel. Due to watching his show I would love to go tour New Zealand.
