It happened this weekend on a short day trip.

We were cruising along at a steady 80 odd km\h on a fairly good gravel road and all of a sudden the rear tire went flat, running on the rim for a good 50 plus meters before I got the scoot to a stop.  Luckily is was on a straight.  It was a sudden\instant flat, no pre warning whatsoever.

I inflated the wheel and managed to pop the bead onto the rim and inflated the tire 2 bars, I couldn't find any puncture or leak.  We continued with our trip and arrived safely home without any further incidents.

Some info on the back tire.
Heidi's which is almost on its last legs, the tire pressure were 2 bars when I last checked.  (That was in the morning)
We were slightly loaded, two up.

What could cause the tire to go flat so quickly?
Is it common or is this an isolated incident?
What can be done to prevent it from happening again?

If this happens at speed and particular while cornering I see big k@k.  :eek7:

Advice please.  :thumleft:
