Guys I do not know how you get  20km/Lt.
Mine hovers between 15 and 17 km/Lt. I never ride faster than 140 dirt or tar.
Maybe I should have my bike checked/tweaked.

Same here, it will only get better on 60kmph gravel sections

Same here Chris... But I know I twist the throttle a bit and my bike is an older model 2006/7. What say the other dawgs? Is something wrong and what can be done to improve without telling me to go slower?

2010 GSA - 18.18km/l over the last 35,000km - went down to 16km/l when I came back from East London fully loaded and cruising a fair bit above the speed limit....

I fill up when the odo reads about 550km......

The Military Fuel Tanker does more or less the same as ClimbingTurtle's bike....  :peepwall:

On a +- 1400Km trip now Dec ( 26th to 29th ) I averaged 16.3Km/Litre over the entire distance and my best per tank was 17.93Km/Litre. This worked out based on my totall fuel cost to be just below 80C a kilometer.

Oh this was 2 up fully loaded with alot more shite than required and running average speed of 80Kms hr. Some places 130/140 other places 30 so I'm well chuffed with my '07 1200 GSA

May I mention my iPhone app here? If so...

Check out https://itunes.apple.com/za/app/kilofuel/id320207942?mt=8

An iPhone fuel tracking app that can also, over time, even indicate which vendor's fuel gives you the best consumption. Keep track of fuel, services, license renewal reminders, etc.

Completed a 3348 trip in December with my 2008 GSA, one up, fully loaded top box, both panniers and tank bag. Speed around bigger cities just under 130 and all other areas 140 km/h, with revs between 4300 and 4700. Average consumption range was 5.8 to 6.2 which is about 16.1 to 17.2 km/l. Route down was via Bloemfontein, Aliwal North, Cradock, P.E, Jeffrey's Bay and on to Hermanus. Returned via George, Graaff-Renet, Colesberg, and Kroonstad. Longest day ride was between Hermanus and Kroonstad of 1343km. Got caught between Winburg and Kroonstad in a serious gale force crosswind that blew in firstly a dust storm followed by stinging rain, all this in pitch darkness (was still light at 17h45 when leaving Bloemfontein) with some scary lightening bolts thrown in for good measures. (as they say on TV - don't try this at home)

Kan nie 17L tank wees nie. Ek het al 19.5L gegooi as hy baie leeg was. Moet 20L dan wees.

I find it a bit optimistic to simply believe the Odo and speedometer when attempting to determine accurate fuel consumption figures.  Calibration is the way to go before you can calculate real consumption figures to the second or third decimal.  Tyre diameter (read make), wear etc all have some minor influences on the true circumference and this influences the speed and odo readings.  I have not calibrated my GS so cannot comment on how "accurate" those "factory" settings and readings are....Also that stupid "air" space in the tank makes filling it to the exact "mark" a bit of a guess as a mm difference in "fuel" height visible in the filler neck is spread over a somewhat larger area in the tank, potentially offering erroneous confidence....

Also different year models are mapped differently, the later models running leaner than previous models (to the frustration of a lot of guys), so year model should be factored into this equation as well.  My 2006 1200 GS, using un-calibrated Odo readings fitted with relatively new Anakee's, whilst commuting daily on a open piece of road at an average of 90-100km/h, with only a few stops, my old lady offers around 17-18km/l  - and that's going easy on the revs and not laboring the motor - granny riding...in other words.
