More on todays stage:

Change of setting for the second stage
. Participants will have technical tracks where the driver will have to be
the cleverest. After a few kilometers, participants cross the first Jbel to access the Zguilma fort at the top of
the pass. On the way down, you will find many parallel tracks. Copilots should beware! After CP1, it will be
well stall the Road book to find the passage to the second Jbel. From the top of the Jebel, the view is
fabulous! Participants will not have the time to enjoy it, but photographers can make sumptuous shooting.
Then a narrow and sinuous pass to go down to the oued. Finally, the last section will consist of more rapid,

sinuous and technical tracks, which allow pilots to express themselves.

Marc Coma's comments from day 1 (my translation from espanol)

Although we have tested the new motorbikes, we need to see a little bit more how they react in competition. We need to bear in mind that there is absolutely no comparison between test conditions and race conditions, we will see how the bike performs over the long (endurance) term in the coming days. In principle, everything is going as planned....Now we will push the bike to its limit and work and develop it to stay there. Through today's stage it was very complicated and navigation was really important which we made good work of it which permitted us to enjoy it and get a sensation of the KTM's performance. tomorrow we have a stage that is totally different, we we are expecting a lot of rocks, a very physically demanding and technical stage that will require a lot of concentration.

Stage 1 video highlights & summary in french. Not sure if there is an english version.

Some feedback about Riaan, provided by Darryl:  :thumleft:

What happened yesterday:   After stage one of the Rally of Maroc, Riaan van Niekerk emerged with a steady and safe ride with 17th overall on his Broadlink KTM. He had started out the day with a brake issue at the 6Km mark and then got lost later on for around 5 Kilometers. Not so lucky was team mate Kurt Caselli who missed a waypoint and incurred a 20 minute penalty. Spaniard Joan Barreda took the win on the Honda ahead of Marc Coma on his Factory Red Bull KTM.

Todays stage: 49Km Liasion, 249Km special, 9Km Liasion
Riaan chased dust the whole day, in a procession that saw only a few changes in the ranks placing 17th today. He suffered from the bike cutting out several times, a problem that he has experienced since his arrival in Morocco. The team will try and figure the problem out this afternoon. A huge improvement has been made to the handling of the bike, thanks to the WP crew after both Riaan and the Australian Ben Grabham struggled yesterday. Riaan noted what an advantage it is having done the same rally the year before as he recognised a lot of the sections. Paulo Gonzalves won the day’s stage ahead of Red Bull Factory rider Marc Coma, Sam Sunderland and Franzisco Lopez. Marc is only three points ahead of Paulo in the World Championsip standings with Marocco being the decider. This duel will be closely watched.

Tomorrow’s stage: 65Km Liasion, 250Km special, 98Km Liasion
Back in the sand! The start will be on a rolling and fast track. Then, competitors will descend into the valley with an easy but rough track. Then they will follow a sandy track to the Cheggaga sand plains to reach the flat out sections of lake Iriki. The return will be tricky navigation using the cap to enter the dunes. Lots of caps will be followed and fast paralell sand tracks will bring the riders home. This will be the most spectacular part of the dunes.

All very nice! But where is a update on the standings?!

People say nothing is impossible, but I do nothing every day. And doing nothing often leads to the very best kind of something.

From Darryl:
"Hi Everyone
Riaan had some issues today, but the most important thing is that he was alone in the dunes and concentrated on watching the cap, he didn’t made a single error, super important to reach our end goal."

What happened yesterday
Riaan chased dust the whole day, in a procession that saw only a few changes in the ranks placing 17th. He suffered from the bike cutting out several times  >:(. A huge improvement was made to the handling of the bike, he started feeling much more comfortable on the bike.

Todays stage: 65Km Liasion, 250Km special, 98Km Liasion
It was an early start this morning as riders made the 65 Km Liasion to the start of the 250Km special. The track was rough and Broadlink KTM’s Riaan van Niekerk, had an uncomfortable day in the saddle feeling some pain in his right hand from the break he had a few months ago  :o. Factory Red Bull rider Ruben Faria had to withdraw from the rally due to pain in his hands from a crash earlier this year. Riaan’s pivot bolt came loose after 90Km and he had a hard time crossing the dunes and 140Km to the finish with no rear brakes  :o. He finished 17th on the stage, not bad considering. Riaan’s overall standing will improve to 14th or 15th overall, results are not
yet final.
Honda’s Helder Rodriques got towed across the finish line yesterday and today Marc Coma came in ahead of Paulo Gonzalves, these two are neck and neck for the World title, they will be playing a cat and mouse game for the remainder of the rally.
Barreda took the stage win ahead of Lopez, Israel, Sunderland, Coma and Gonzalves.

Tomorrow’s stage: 49Km Liasion, 295Km special, 17Km Liasion
Sand, lots of sand for the most beautiful stage of the Rally. No crossing of the dunes planned for this 4th special, but a lot of navigation in an idyllic landscape. Competitors will leave Zagora’s region and head toward Erfoud in crossing spectacular tracks with lots of navigation. The highlight of this leg will be the crossing of incredible sandy passes. After crossing the road after CP3, competitors will ascend to Erfoud and they will be able to admire the famous site where the Mummy movies have been made.
