Route around the South of Loskop Dam?
« on: October 14, 2013, 10:46:14 am »
Getting from the R544 to the N11, staying as far North as possible...

I know the dirt route around the North of the Dam, but has anyone found a way through the Southern side?
It looks like some pretty crazy terrain, but if there's a track through there it would make for a spectacular ride.

A few small hills on the south....

Investigated on Google Earth in the past but could not find any tracks or river crossings.

Ooh nice; I'll be giving it a go on my Transalp if I get a chance. Also not the ideal tool for the job but worth a shot  >:D

Even my most detailed map doesn’t show a  route  from the R544 to the N11 north of the R555  and South of the  dam. The Olifants river runs through that area and even in winter you won’t get a bike across without a boat.
Why do things that only happen to stupid people always happen to me?

Hmmm....one possibility...in fact the only possibility I could see on Google's satellite views.

-25° 40' 3.86", +29° 17' 56.93"

What about this?

Looks like there are some small roads - tracks maybe - that may require permission?

Opens in BaseCamp - .kmz file - havn't got a MapSource converter loaded - Sorry....

Urgh, scratch that. it's just an access road to a big U-bend in the river; still all on the East side of the main river though  :P

I'm going on a big Boys Weekend ride in November with a few close friends, then December happens, so this would be in January at the earliest.

Probably better to wait for winter = the river will be low.
