Things happen to all bikes -- as long as its not major --all is well ---
True, however, their severity differ between brands.
The KLR, has a red alert fix, which if left unchecked, might result in a melt down. I believe there is something of similar severity on the DR650. (I might be wrong)
On XR's for instance, you don't have to worry about replacing rocker bearings, bushes, or crank bearings.
You don't have to fix cracking parts on the frame or leaking air boxes.
In fact, you don't have to fix anything, you just ride them.
You have to run them without oil before damaging the crank bearing. With only 300ml oil, I still could not damage mine.
When you reach 40 000KM though, you will have to split the motor and replace the counter shaft.
I have always been told that the 610 is as reliable as any XR and believed them to be, but now I'm not so sure anymore
