Morning,

I bought an immaculate condition 640 adv a couple of months ago.
It has now got nearly 30 000km on it and I am hearing that at this mileage it is common to do a bit of work on the engine?

can anyone shed a bit of light on this for me please?
What signs or noises to look out for that would indicate attention is needed?
I would prefer that owners reply and not key-board jockeys that go on "hearsay" please. No offense, but I want some personal experiences please.

Year model?

Maybe have a look at this http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=73558

I sold my '03 model when it had around 45 000km on it, only work done was scheduled maintenance. Only sold it because I had a crash but it was still running perfectly, just not economical to repair

As long as you keep doing the services at regular intervals, you shouldn't have any issues.

The 2006-2007 models had no big end problems, so you are safe.

The other gremlin on the older LC4 motors are the rocker arm bearings(exhaust and inlet side)

Simple, take the bike for a valve clearance inspection and have them check for play and wear on the rocker arm roller bearings. If there is no wear and the valve clearance are in spec, dont go any further, get on and ride it like you stole it. Just change oil often.

If it makes a loud bang and wont go, thereafter that is normally an indication of something wrong.   :laughing4:

The 640 epitomises an adventure bike the biggest mistake anyone can make is to sell it ever.

one last thing..

The  lc4 motors does not like 160km stints all day long, stick to 140 on tar and all is well.
