Yip I was watching that as well. Meanwhile Jan has gone wrong and knows it. But he is still wrong....hopefully he does not panic and works it out.

All this kind of thing can really add to the stress levels and fatigue medium term.

Can somebody maybe supply a tracking link/app. For Clutch #122. I've got his password and username but don't know which app to use.

Ersnt, let us know what that is and we can try and get it to work...

I'm getting stressed and fatigued! Jan has gone wrong, and I can see where, and where he needs to go. But I can't tell him, or tell you lot because you might tell him, and then Alex will shout me loud  :o

This is stressful  :bounce:
It must be easy for a rider to panic, once he gets a feeling something has gone wrong.....

Jan is now hopelessly lost and confused...His only hope is to backtrack to where he knows he was correct, and start again. Thats if he remembers where he came from...

My level of respect for rally riders just rose another few notches. How the top guys navigate at Mach 2, I have no idea.

Neil, is getting lost a cumulative slippery slope, kinda like falling over? You get lost once, you stress out, which makes you tired, which increases your chances of getting lost, which makes you more tired........

Well it looks like Jan muddled his way back on track, he was very lucky to get onto a parallel road, and then stay on track. His ICO will now be totally out. If he was sensible, he would have reset it turning off the highway to that mileage.

I wonder if he is going to pick up a penalty for this? Certainly he has ridden more than anyone else here ;D

Yes, I personally find getting lost very stressful. You know you are losing time and you are lost and as you say it is a mind thing. You get freaked out and start making irrational decisions. Its clear Jan did this here. He knew he was wrong, went back, and tried to continue. But his ICO was out and he couldn't remember what the mileage was where he went wrong 1st, so he pushed on instead of turning back to where he knew he was right. Then he got totally lost and started riding somewhere, just guessing where the route might be, but knowing he was wrong. It can become a death spiral.

I remember one of the Portuguese riders a few years ago in the African Dakar, he got totally lost, while in the lead and eventually collapsed in a complete panic attack up this dry, dead end, river valley way, way off the route.

Jan was very, very close to putting himself out of the rally, it was pure luck he hit the main road. If he had made another wrong turn, he would still be looking for a way out and the chase car would catch him. Anyway I'm glad he is back on track.

I should be able to track more riders soon, but right now I can track only Kamanya, N[]vA and Gerrit du Toit (plus the marshalls, but that's boring)
if anybody can track other guys, please post where they are/how they are doing?

Andrew is flying along - Look he is about half way to Laingsburg...after 2 hours and 54 minutes....And suddenly it becomes apparent how hard this rally really is. He is going to have to pick up the pace to get to the start of the special on his time without a penalty..

Then and only then does the racing start....and we all know how we feel after a 400km ride.

Meanwhile Jan has found his way to the Malgas pontoon. He stopped a couple of time on the way, I am pretty sure his confidence is down and he is triple checking his road book ;D

We are struggling to get "Clutch" #122, tracking to work. Will ask him to rectify it tonight and we can follow him tomorrow. Good luck and safe riding to all. This is very exciting.  :thumleft: :ricky: :ricky:
