I Just spoke to Darksider (Fanie Nel) and they have finished the briefing and are all doing their road books. Everyone sounds chipper. They are leaving in 2's tomorrow every 2 minutes starting at 05h30. I believe the special is just 52km long, but it took the guys 4-5 hours to do it, so its sounds hard and technical. They have been given until 11h30 to get to the timed section which is many hundreds of km away.

With the bivouac change out of the black southeaster wind, the guys seem happy and apparently the potjiekos is very good and so far everything is well organised.  Darkside,  speedmetal (Chris) and markdiver have decided to take it easy together and will be grouping up on the stage to ride together.

Thanks Fanie. :thumleft:

Spoke to some other people as well. Some are quite nervous! Others are relaxed. All of them are excited as you can imagine. Its going to be a long day tomorrow.

Here is where Niva is right now ahead of of tomorrow.

And here is part of his roadbook:

How it got to be part of what looks to be a cheese and wine session is anyone's guess   :patch:  :lol8:

Lots of cuations in there, seems like the liaison will be tough as well. They reckon average speed in the special will be only 15km/hr!!

One section is 30ks with a speed lint of 70?! What's up wit that?

Lainsberg is where the special starts.

Alex was pretty covincing as to how hard it'll be.

Some very nice toys here.

Have a look here early tomorrow morning, we will post a PDF of the day's route, but only once all the riders have left. It will be kinda fuzzy, we don't want people SMSing riders details of where to go, but it should be good enough for what you need.
The price for this gem is that you take and post a couple of pictures/video clips of them going past  :thumleft:

For the early birds: The first spectator point is South about 3.7km south of the highway on the R43 at Botrivier - you will need to be there early, like at 05h45am

Coordinates are:
 3415'46.51"S  1910'54.48"E

The bikes will be coming from the south and turning east at this junction. For safety reasons, Please do not drive/ride with the bikes on the liaison

I will post some other viewpoints in a couple of hours

From one of the photographers, who is kindly going to sneak  us some scoop photeees!!! :hello2:

Hi Neil!
Missed your call by about 10 seconds, and my phone is blocked from making international calls.
Will prepare some pics and send shortly, probably via gmail. Eskom computers are down for maintenance this weekend, I'm more used to my Outlook.
I'm in the barn, Kamanya and N[]va are still around and probably sleeping here.
First navigational challenge for participants was to find their own tent, that wasn't marked up in the roadbooks  :-)
Nic

  Sounds the tent navigation is tough as well.  :bueller:  :imaposer:

Each rider has a trunk to live out of every day. His life's possessions and spares are stored in this. This trunk is moved by the organization to the next bivouac.

Nice looking bikes...hope they stay that way but somehow I doubt it!
