Great weekend, big thanks to Kilroy and everyone involved who made it happen.  :thumleft: :thumleft:

DirtyXT and I headed off around 13h00 on Friday, Swifty’s route on our GPS’s, gear packed in HSK's bakkie (easy way out, but a huge bonus - thanks Johan) and grateful to blow the popsicle stand that is Gauteng.

Hit the dirt roads just outside Cullinan and then it was game on.

Lood se pad was really great (I think one of my favourite roads on the way there).

Little bit of everything on these roads!

The problem with dating a biker is that if one can do it, the other one (to save face  :eek7: - i.e. me) has to be able to do it as well.   Case in point - the hard way....

The easy way....

But it makes for interesting riding at least!   O0

Lots of animals on these roads

One or two locked farm gates on Swifty's route, but we managed to find our way around!

And then the fun started.

We were doing pretty good time, having fun, glad to be out on the open road.  Nothing could go wrong.

And then it started.  So, some background - when your girlfriend suggests that a dual sport helmet is smarter than an off road helmet under the circumstances, but gives you the freedom of choice - what she is really doing is setting you up so that if your peak comes off, she is going to ridicule you.    :ricky:

He resembled a downhill snow skier.  I laughed and laughed and laughed.   :imaposer: :imaposer:

And then, his bike started over heating.    Yay!

And then, in my fits of laughter, I ran outta petrol.  Double Yay!

So, both virgin towers, we had to get to Mokopane with a tow rope in between.  Being passed by trucks.  And worst of all, now the downhill skier was attached to me, so everyone knew that we were riding together.  Every time I got a side view of his helmet, I laughed a little more....

PH000209.jpg

But we made it to Mokopane!    Proud of our towing abilities - I only got whiplash nine or ten times which I think is a win!

And even the downhill skier starting to see the funny side!

We had to push to get to the Makakeng Den.  We didn't find it and got lost a few times.  Relative sense of humour failure, thanks to the sand and more sand, and then we found it!  Yay!

Getting there in the dark meant pitching camp in the dark.. But we did it!

And then we got to join the party!

And then people started burying bikes in sand (obviously)

That was before Kilroy decided to have an incident on my pretty bikety.   :patch:

Waking up in the morning, we finally got to see our surroundings - and beautiful they were!!!!  :3some:

Raka fixing stuff while Kilroy tries to be taken seriously in his sarong.... :eek7:

Some of the guys headed out early, we took it easy and then opted for the shorter route (about 120kms) which turned out to be the perfect length.  The riding out there is fantastic.  But there is sand.  Alot of sand.   :-\

Done with riding for the day, we made a quick stop off at the shebeen (one of many around there) for refreshments!

And fortunately I have no photos of that!

BUUUUTTT, Mark popped the question to Judy and the vid will be uploaded a little later for all to see!  HUGE Congratulations to the two of them!   :blob9:  :hello2: :hello2: :headbang:

It was a really super weekend with a great bunch of people and a healthy mix of riding and socialising! Well, for some of us!  :peepwall:

We got home yesterday with water from the hateful rain in places where I didn't think I could get water in!   :eek7:

Thanks again to everybody!  What a great weekend out!!!!  :thumleft:
