Hi 640 people,
Back when I read the inter-webs (wilddog, advrider, horizon untlim. etc) , going through the never ending debates about which bike is better for whatever reasons, I made my own conclusion that a 640 would be what I'd get. I've not been disappointed, love this bike.
BUT
It's 2018, which means every 640 in existence is now more than 10 years old. From what I can gather most of these are sitting with odos in the 20k - 40k km range.
I'm not online all the time, but recent readings of 640 related posts, I'm starting to get the feeling that maybe we've reached a point where parts availability has become an issue, but it's hard to judge this properly.
I see things like people do "Stripping for parts"-jobs, eg
http://www.wilddog.za.net/forum/index.php?topic=214044.0 less after market stuff being available (eg
http://www.wilddog.za.net/forum/index.php?topic=173382.0)
no idea what KTM part supply is like, but people do comment it being expensive
vibes on advrider's 640 posts...
A quick re-evaluation, and I still don't see a better option, I'm still not feeling it with the same old crowd (DR650, KLR, etc), although won't mind giving a DR a go for a project , nor do the new bikes (eg new AT) which imho are all way too expensive

. None gives me the balance of factors the 640 does (price, weight, capability, simplicity).
I'm contemplating buying a 2nd bike just for parts, but I wonder if that might be rediculous considering the total cost then of having bought two bikes...?
what do you guys reckon?
