Well I thought it was a good idea!!!
« on: January 14, 2008, 06:05:15 pm »
I decided to haul the BMW XChallenge off to Daytona off-road park yesterday to show the world that it was actually a very capable off-road machine - which I think I was doing pretty well until this river crossing................

The XChallenge doesn't do submarine very well  ;D but whip the plugs out and pump the water out and she was as good as new and ready to rock.

Thanks to Pete and the team that stopped to help, thanks to Dennis, I know I pull the piss out of KTM on every chance that I get - but without that 8mm socket I would've been toast.

First rule of off-road riding - carry all the tools that you MIGHT need........in the pic is my Boet showing me the way I should've gone  ???

About those Darwin awards!!!!!
If you don't have an Adventure - ya don't have a life!

BMW goes nautical, lucky you don't get seasick ? get those pumps working  ;D ;D
ROUTE DIFFICULTY:1 = tar
2 = good gravel /pillion friendly
3 = interspersed with sand, mud, sand , bush / not pillion friendly
4 = lots of sand, technical riding
5 = expert only (we are not worthy, still to meet one)

I have to ask,
was this yours or one off the AA showroom floor?
The conundrum that is life...
You have to be absolutely smashed to have the guts to attempt it,
But perfectly sober to achieve any success!

eish it wouldn't be right for the DP to be doing that to his floor stock, nah it's an insurance re-build that I bought cheaply - so I can ride it hard everywhere - needless to say we don't sell re-builds off the floor!!

Funny though - ran it thru the workshop yesterday - not a drop of water in the motor at all - now THAT impressed me. Changed the airfilter and the oil, gave it a general re-grease and she's as good as new - Lesotho here we come!
If you don't have an Adventure - ya don't have a life!

I don't think that Alex is all to blame, the general sewage infrastructure though the bottom of a lot of the areas along the river is toast, and generally overflows straight into the river, then there is the old bubonic plague graveyard in Edenvale that sits in it's watertable and floodzone, bit of a timebomb that one (You know that riding area to the west of the highway between linksfield and modderfontein... it's empty for a reason :o )

But yes, in general it is not a pleasant place to swim
Alcohol is essentially nature’s Leatt Brace – with it, you might not be able to move worth sh*t, but you can take a slam or two and be no worse for the wear.
