My son started showing interest in DS biking so I proceeded (in secret, my ex will sue me if she knew) to explain to him the basics of riding a motorised two wheeled vehicle.
We got to gyro force and I explained that one can remove the support under one end of an axle on which a wheel spins at speed and it will defy gravity and stay upright as long as it spins fast enough.
Then he wanted to know: If both ends of the axle each had a scale under it, would the mass on the remaining scale double when the other support/scale was removed? The mind wants to say if it does not need that support to stay upright it should not affect the remaining support but logic says the weight will only be transferred to the other support.
The engineers out there? I promised the laaitie to get an answer before his next visit
