THE RR - EC DOGS GET TOHETHER @ WINTERBERG
« on: November 10, 2013, 02:29:34 pm »
JMOL asked me to begin this RR.

Thanks JMOL for all the effort, planning and arrangement you made.  If I look at the attendance, you can tap yourself on the back, it was a huge success and we all had a great time.  Also a big thank you to all who attended, you were great.  It was nice seeing old friend and meeting new ones.   :thumleft:

Here is a taster before I begin with the rest of the RR.  Those who took some phodies are welcome to post them here if you do not want to start your own RR.

let me put something on..although i wasnt able to stay over due to family committments at home for sunday morning(my daughters church confirmation- yeah yeah bad timing i know) i decided  to ride to hogsback for the friday evening, chill there, tame the mitchells pass, join the manne and gals for breakfast at baddaford(near fort beaufort)...do a ride to the camp site and then head home via adelaide on tar..

anyway i had orders to look after a certain newbie, Martina. Her dad said he'd bliksem me  :o if she wasnt deliverd to the winterberg camp in one piece.. hes a big oke  :patch:

anyway after a few goois in hogsback we rode the michells pass down to seymour from hogsback..one word comes to mind...moer !! :o

started off easipeezie, until we hit the first obstacle where i rode my 1200 thru as well as Martina's KTM. We thought , lekka obstacle done  freeway all the wau until seymour...bliksem we had just started off from the first obstacle we hit the second and baddest portion eva.. road gone. rutted, boulders, steep etc..anyway we walked both bikes down, ignition off, 1st gear and 2 per bike.. beats breaking them....the pics unfortunately dont show the true situation..

anyway we reached the brekkie pozzie, had a chow and headed towards the campsite, what a lekka ride..when we reached the site turnoff i  said my goodbyes  :-\  and headed home on tar..

pics to follow

Baie dankie Mev Vis en julle almal wat daar was.

Die sukses sou ook nie moontlik gewees het sonder Visarend, Mev Deutchman en Jupiter wat my bygestaan het met raad, hulp en leiding.  Julle al 3 is great mense.

A friendly request from the locals - they want to know where they can improve as we will visit them again next year this time.  If you have an idea, please put it on the thread, if it's OK with Vis.

We also gave it some thought and call it an official WD Border Bash as from next year.  I'll get in contact with some sponsors and the main peanuts of WD's.

Will do more pics later, but had to share this for now. We rode home through a couple of game farms today and at the last one, where we go visit a friend of Tiger8's, I get my first pic of Buffalo oin the wild. Man, I was so chuffed.  Full zoom with my little mik and druk. I need a decent camera.  :dousing:

This is the best I could edit it.

OK, here goes my contribution.

I met up with the Slumdogs in King William’s Town and headed direction Alice and Hogsback for a back road to Kat River dam and a loop to the brekkie at Baddasford.

On the gravel towards Kat River dam

The dam in the distance

Smoke break at the dam

This oke refused to be left behind, what a classic.

On our way to Baddasforf Farm stall for a brekkie.

When we got there Firecoast and Throttle Jockey were waiting for us.

Brekkie time

And the scoots are taking a rest..........

..........and others took a nap too.........

Die skonergeslag was ook saam.

From Baddasford we took a nice cruise through Mpofu reserve.

Once through Mpofu, we took a loop to Winterberg via the Post Retief route.
Katberg pass is at the back of the mountain on your right.

Another stop at Piet Retief’s house

The last stretch to the venue

Thanks dat jy so sê, maar ek het niks daarmee te doen eintlik nie.

Hierdie Bash, net so, is 'n wenresep. Moet nie die formaat verander, en kompliseer, met sponsors en lucky draw pryse ens nie.

Welgedaan  :thumleft:

And then the tents were pitched in preparation for the big one.

And some had to rest.

Some tried their luck at the waters.

Learning the tricks of the trade.

Some got lucky

And of course, the Vis Arend was byderhand.

Some big buggers were caught.

En die Vis Arend loop weg met die vangs.

Random phodies from the venue

And then the “spyker bar”.

We enjoyed the evening.  Other enjoyed it more than others.  The next morning there was a strange silence in the camp.

Strange sounds came from this tent.

And a lekker brekkie were served.  This tannie is apparently close to 80, but she is very vocal and made sure that everyone had enough.

And then it was time for some to go home.
BENTEN saying good bye.

Tiger8 and Des

We were packed and took our last route home.

We headed back toward Adelaide where we would take the route towards Fort Fordyce.

We stopped at the picnic spot at the big tree.

And I still dig this bike.

Down Fort Fordyce pass

We stopped again at Baddasford for a quick coffee, but they were still closed.  We said our good byes and each departed in their different directions home.

Cheers Ant.

Cheers Jupiter and Lyn.

In Alice we saw this character.

We had a great and enjoyable outing, once again thank you to all.  Hope to see soon again and ride safe.
