Die mis oor Loodsbergpas was so dig ek kon slegs so 50km/u ry.

Growing up nicely, 1 month old now. It's still dry as anything here, we had 1/2mm of rain last night  ::).

Hey, those are looking good.  Good thing to see the ewes are in good condition too.  That bodes well for the next breeding season DB.  How's that ram doing?  I am actually really sorry I sold him, he bred such great kids.

I know they look good, that's why I was complaining about my feed bill on the other thread!

Unfortunately that ram died of a cancerous growth on its spine, I had sold a half share in him to another goat farmer close by. How old would he have been, 4 or 5yrs?

Jou fotos maak my hart warm.

Is daai kuikentjie daai hoender se kind?

Damn, that's is a shame  :(  Ja he should be around 5 years.  Check on his certificate,  I cannot recall his number offhand.  If you have his number nearby I could look it up here quickly?

I gave the certificate with the ram, so don't have the number handy.

On a related topic, at what point is it worth registering as a stud breeder? My flock is looking quite good now as I have sold just about all of the crap. How big an operation do you have to be to make it worthwhile? What are the costs involved?

Dankie Dorsland.  Ek sal mooi na haar kyk - belowe.  Sy sal seker binne kom slaap.

Ja, ek dink julle boere stort menig maal trane.

You need a minimum of 25 animals that you believe are likely to be registered as stud. It's not really about the size, it's about the proven name, genetics and bloodlines you produce.  People still buy Nico Botha rams at above average prices due to his name, even though the quality has significantly declined since his death about 3 or 4 years ago.

Costs are the registration with SABTV (around R1190 pa if I recall), travelling costs for 2 inspectors to get to you and then R27/animal presented for inspection (not graded).  You also need to buy your stud plates (not sure of the cost now though).

Dis hoekom dit so lyk in my lamkrale  ;D
