Ai, sou lekker wees as ek so bietjie klamigheid in die damme kon kry so voor die winter  :-\

So lyk daai bokkie verlede week al.

Julle kan my nou maar as Dokter Dorsland aanspreek asseblief  :lol8:

That looks a lot better. Fortunately we haven't experienced vuilbek yet.

As you know, it's a virus that survives in the soil.  If you don't have it on your farm, you are unlikely to be bothered by vuilbek unless you somehow bring it back from auction pens, vehicles or having infected animals bring it on your farm.  The good news is that once kids have had it, they don't get it again.  Caught early and treated, it last around 7 - 10 days and doesn't mutate to the worse strains like the kid in the pix DB.  The bad news is that vuilbek mutates and gas 100s of different strains, one of the reasons why OBP's Orf vaccine is not very effective.  The best advice is to break off some of the scabs from the warts into a bottle, take it to the vet and let them culture a vaccine specifically for the strains found on your farm.

Good to know. We only buy in rams from good  breeders and sell from the farm so hopefully we'll never have that problem.

We have a peculiar case currently though, a young ram about 10 weeks old doesn't want to walk on his back legs. No parasites, or ticks or anything. In the morning, he figures out a way to cantilever himself up so that he can walk on his front two legs, and the back two dangle in the air. Later in the day he seems to walk on them reluctantly. No injuries, ticks, tenderness or anything. I'm not sure if you have come across anything like that, or if it is a neurological or psychosomatic defect? Very wierd.

Check the tip of the tail for bloodiness or signs of ticks. Anticoagulant enzymes from tick bites on the tail tip or around the anus can cause a spinal infection that paralyzes the hindquarter.  Called sitsiekte in Afrikaans.

High doses of tetracycline may cure it but most often it doesn't come right. If you have to slaughter the animal, a PM would be good to positively identify the cause.

Good luck DB, let me know.

Only thing I can think of

Ek sal binnekort hier 'n paar fodies van my wa hier pos.
