now that i have a tubed 800 - i was playing around a bit and reading up on those who know as to how to replace the wheels and fix the tubes.  Maybe some dogs might find this useful - i will start with the back wheel (for now)

Procedure for removing and installing tubes on the F800GS

Back wheel

Tools needed:

• 13mm wrench (x2) (for the chain adjusters)
• Tyre levers (x2) or more if you need
• 12mm wrench (for the tyre valve)
• 24 socket (for the axle)
• 30 torx (for the ABS sensor)
• Valve tool
• Gloves
• Lube (spray if possible)
• Strap to secure centre stand to front wheel

Procedure: (removing)

1. Place motorcycle on its centre stand.  Secure the centre stand to the front wheel with a strap.  This is important because you may need to tip the bike over as to utlise the side stand as a bead breaker.
2. Start on the left side of the motorcycle. Remove the ABS censor  (using the 30 torx) and secure out of the way.
3. Loosen the chain adjusters (on both side) – using the 13mm box wrench
4. On right hand side, loosen the rear axle (24 socket)
5. Remove axle to the left
6. Loosen chain
7. As you take out the wheel – watch out for the spacers (especially on the sprocket side of the axle)
8. Put wheel down – sprocket side up
9. Remove sprocket and remove spacers – use the opportunity to inspect the bearings for any wear
10. Remove the valve (using the valve tool and 12mm wrench
11. Start working on the tyre – start opposite side of valve
12. Position the wheel (tyre) so that you can use the side stand to break the bead – tip the bike over to the left to position the side stand snug to the rim and use the weight of the bike to break the bead. – follow two or three places
13. Do the other side of the rim
14. Spray lube along the sides of the tyre bead – will make it easier to remove the tyre
15. Start to remove the tyre from the rim using the tyre levers – starting opposite side of the valve and working towards the valve
16. Remove tube

Procedure (replacing)

17. Once the tube has been patched – or new tube has been put in, inflate the tube a bit
18. From the valve stem onwards put the tyre back on (be careful as to not to pinch the tube)
19. Put valve stem back in
20. Inflate the tyre to slightly above its normal pressure – and check for any leakages – also just makes it easier to fit and position the tyre
21. Tighten the valve
22. Put the spacers back in
23. Put sprocket back
24. Make sure the brake pads are spread
25. Mount the tyre by sitting behind the bike and positioning the wheel  (remember the spacers)
26. Put chain back on
27. Tighten the axle bold a bit – helps to correctly do the chain adjustment and wheel positioning
28. Start tightening the chain adjusters (13mm wrench)
29. Allow for 35-40 mm play
30. Check wheel spacing on both sides to ensure when is correctly spaced
31. Using both 13mm wrenches tighten the chain adjusters
32. Fasten the axle bolt  (since you probably won’t have a torque wrench – just until it’s probably tight
33. Reconnect ABS sensor
