Jammer om so 'n slegte einde aan 'n lekker RR te moet pos Knor.  Julle sal altyd daai laaste besoek aan jou pa onthou en ek is seker dit was ook sy troos aan die einde.  Sleg as mens se ouers heengaan.  Sterkte my maat

Dunno why but this morning I read this RR for the first time since I posted the irrelevant details. I shouldn’t have, or maybe it’s just what I needed to remind me how much changed over the past few years.

It prompted me to ponder how fragile life can be and how much can change in a heartbeat. That last weekend on the farm, in a private moment, my dad said: ‘Your brother won’t live long, please take care of your mother.’

If only he knew...or did he?

It’s been nearly 7 years since this ride...

Before I post some positive news, a little background is required. My mom stayed on the farm for a while and eventually took care of my brother in that very same house before he too passed. She never admitted it but I knew the memories haunted her. When we decided to spend a few years abroad we suggested she moves into our house which would be unoccupied apart from MIL living in the granny flat. This turned out to be a catastrophic decision. While they initially got along the relationship did not last leaving us with the difficult challenge of keeping the peace.

My mom started traveling to get away, the trips getting ever longer with us wondering what next.

Last week I received a call, I have something to discuss with you she says, her seriousness makes me anxious. And then the news that I never expected...she’s getting married again!

For the record, I love the idea and supports her 100%. The past week has been most entertaining to say the least. My mother, nearly 70 years old, is head over heels in love. What’s even better is that I know and like the lucky guy, I’ve known him since he was 18 and I only 6. He’s been taking excellent care of her and has taken a huge weight off my shoulders in the process.

Now we’re planning a wedding and a new chapter begins...

NK, daai oomblik langs die pad toe daai foto geneem is sal my altyd bybly.

Sjoe, I think the RR in the heading might mean Rollercoaster Ride. What a story. Emotional and exhilarating. From a gold coin to an unstable GS at 200km/h, and all the rest. Sorry to hear about your father and brother. Excellent news for your mom and the man in her life. Very lekka RR. Thanks

I think I need to start a while new thread, this past weekend my mom got engaged and while that’s great, there’s more.

Her fiancé bought a Harley and my very conservative calvinistic mother got her first boots, jacket and helmet. Even went for a ride on the 1200, her first time on a motorcycle, to get used to the idea.

The proposal:

LK; this is a very moving RR, from Great Sadness to Renewed Joy. Thank you for sharing this with us. All the best to your Mom and her Fiancé.

Had to laugh at your 100m dash to the farm, how many times have we not done that, gotten brave/stupid, in the final stretch, only to make our name Gat!  :lol8:
