fines, impound, arrest and the likes?
« on: December 05, 2013, 09:46:32 am »
What are the hard facts?
Can someone clarrify the following.

1. What is the fine for no number plate at all?

2. What is the fine for claiming the number plate fell off (in hand but not mounted)?

3. What is the fine for obstruction of the plate? (e.g. mud, grease, damage?)

4. Fine for badly mounted plates like some of the superbikes that are mounted halfway under the mudgaurd above the wheel?

5. Fine for deliberately mounting a wrong plate (e.g. FokEtoll)?

Will any of the above lead to impounding? arrest?

Facts only please...If you're unsure then don't answer

As far as I know...

1. What is the fine for no number plate at all?
R 500

2. What is the fine for claiming the number plate fell off (in hand but not mounted)?
Still R 500 - but most will let you get away with no fine

3. What is the fine for obstruction of the plate? (e.g. mud, grease, damage?)
R 250 - http://www.news24.com/SouthAfrica/News/Metro-cops-warn-of-number-plate-tampering-20121115

4. Fine for badly mounted plates like some of the superbikes that are mounted halfway under the mudgaurd above the wheel?
Not sure...?

5. Fine for deliberately mounting a wrong plate (e.g. FokEtoll)?
No fine - imprisonment for numberplate fraud

All of the above are obviously subject to the officer at question and your behaviour towards them.

There's an AARTO charge sheet with fines listed here:
http://www.aartofacts.co.za/chargecodes-list.asp
The three things you need to fix anything in the universe: duct tape, WD-40 and a hammer.  If it moves and it shouldn't, use the duct tape.  If it doesn't move and it should, use the WD-40.  Otherwise use the hammer.
