LC8 - How fast?
« on: January 23, 2008, 07:13:44 am »
Yesterday, while chasing a 990S, I did the highest speed I have been on my KTM 950.  I kept up with the 990, but the torque of the EFI is too much for my 950 going uphill.

So, what is the fastest you've been on your 950/990?  Clock or GPS, please state.

Thanx!

Ps.  After this thread, I will let you know how fast I was going.  Keeping it a secret at first, before making my name gat or bashed as a poser...... ;D

190 on the clock(tar), and slowed down (got scared). Coming from an XT500, that's plenty fast.

Both the 950 and 990 will do in the region of 200 (GPS) with panniers and fat rider  ;D and maybe a few more without.....  (Level road, Scorp tyres)
Tar or gravel, depends on conditions and rider "sense of responsibility"  >:D.  The 990 does seem to pull a little better through the gears and keep top speed maybe a little "easier".  But not much between them up at the top end.

950, 197 on clock, apparantly the 950 reaches top speed in 5th and not 6th

You could not have summed it up better!

I was not referring to dirt, as it is to everyones ability/condition, although I have seen a friend of mine doing 200 on hard dirt, myself about 190, but that was not the question.

The 990 seems better uphill, it does make quite a difference there, but I keep up on level and downhill.

When I did this

I unfortunarely didn't watch the speedo, but yesterday I did 216 on the speedo, and didn't have the GPS!

So, I think, and that was the reason for this thread, that the okes claiming 225+ must be talking shite....IMO.

Ps.  I am a fat rider, without panniers! ;D

On the 950

Downhill with scorps and standard sprockets  - 207km/h on the clock
True speed probably about 200km/h

On the 990

Max - 185 with scorps - self limited as I do not have a death wish
I've got knobblies on now - limited myself to max 140km/h on tar - a bit more on dirt

On tar, 220 on the clock and 208 on the GPS. Aren't the 990's limited thereabouts?

Yeah, I'm a KTM poser.

Thats pretty fast.  I get scared at that speed, never did more than 140 on dirt.  On tar the bike runs out of steam by 200, never pushed it more than that - doubt whether it will do more than 205.
