2014 R1200GS (K50) - biggest technological advance!
« on: December 12, 2013, 03:10:13 pm »
After having ridden my wife's brand spanking new LC and having crawled around, over and under it, having kicked the tyres I believe I can safely say what I found to be the most impressive technological jump over the previous models.

Is it the:

- steering damper? No.
- liquid cooled engine? No.
- integrated gearbox? No.
- wider tyres? No.
- wet clutch? No.
- counter spinning gearbox? No.
- speed control? No.
- auto mode LED headlight? No.
- various electronically controlled riding modes? No.

It is the fact that they finally redesigned the top box lid not to slam shut on your f(&*^()Óng fingers, by itself, while you are scratching around for your ciggies!   :thumleft:

Exactly!  That bloody old top box design was using up fingers faster than I could grow them!   :imaposer:

Hmmm, interesting that I should come across this thread... I find the exact opposite on the new LC... the damn topbox lid keeps falling shut because the plastic holding straps do not allow it to open far enough so it stays open. I't damn frustrating having to hold the lid while fumbling with one hand inside.

My old(er) GS's topbox did not do this.

Think I'll take the plastic straps off and replace it with sturdy strings or such.

The vario panniers in the GS(K50 as per the heading) have a plastic lanyard.

The cable will be found on the alu panniers on the GSA or K51.

Seems like everything else on the K50, it fails after a few weeks of use.   :imaposer:
