Aprilia Pegaso 650 Strada - 17" front
Ducati - 17" front
Hyosung - d/s bike? Nope
KLE 250? No such thing I don't think
KLX650 - on road? Yes!
Versys? 17" front
Triumph Tiger ? new one 17" front - but the old one, definitely!

Get these off the list?

Need to consolidate - ie Honda XR - 250, 350, 500, 600 etc - all one model with differnt engin sizes

Is the AT a XRV or XLV?  TA is a XLV?

The three things you need to fix anything in the universe: duct tape, WD-40 and a hammer.  If it moves and it shouldn't, use the duct tape.  If it doesn't move and it should, use the WD-40.  Otherwise use the hammer.

I'd rather not touch the Hondas. Some Honda owners are fanatical and claim that the XR650R and XR650L are NOTHING alike should NEVER be compared.

The list may be long but is it not better to have an overly accurate list than a list that is shortcoming?

I was thinking the same thing now - who knows, some dude might use his Aprilia Pegaso 650 Strada on dirt...?  And if you're going to insure a Trail, why not the Strada?

I also think we need to pin down the Husaberg, Husqvarna, Loncin, etc model names - you want to be specific don't you?

Buell???

No - we have to draw the line somewhere - I can use a Gold Wing on gravel too, but its not a d/s bike.  At least a 19inch front wheel?

I don't know if I would want to be the one drawing the line
it's looking for trouble if you tell people they don't really ride a DS bike ;)

I don't mind doing it - its our list and our insurance premiums which will suffer if we allow non d/s bike on a WD scheme.

I can't see how you ever can call a bike with a 17inch front wheel a d/s bike.  I would have loved it if a Versys or whatever bike came with a 19inch front wheel, but alas....

Its not saying owners of these bike are not welcome on this site, its just saying they don't ride a d/s bike in the classic sense.  They might ride a non- d/s bike on gravel - thats fine too.

So, lets stick with the general criteria - one which a 19 inch front-wheel?

H

Ps the insurance people cater for a specific type of bike being ridden in a specific way (less risk) - if we allow naked 'fighters' and other types of bike, we are defeating the whole object.

Your argument makes sense

So: We eliminate bikes with front wheels smaller than 19" and combine bikes with similar value/engine/frame like the DR650SE/RSE/RS?

Yes - true (as a general rule)

Are there any Cagiva other that the 1000 on the road?

When looking at the smaller trial bike, are bikes like the XR 200 road legal?

Are there any road legal XR 350s/400 ? Or can we group all XR (350, 400, etc ) together?  Whats the diffs between a XL650V TA and XR650V?  Is the AT a XRV or XLV?

We need to go through the list with a fine tooth comb - once and for all

No KLE 250?

H

No, it exists - but I've never seen one in SA, and they've never been officially imported.

What about grey models - do those get included?

Only if commonly available - will rather add a model than have too long a list
