I find that the real bikers(those with pat he's and shit) will most likely respond to a nod of the head. I greet all,and not too worried if they do not return the gesture.

On my way to Namibia in my cage, I spotted a lone biker approaching me. I wound down my window and waved at him, only to wonder : Do bikers have a way of waving at each other to signal that you are a biker too? I would have loved some sort of signal to say : I'm in a car, but hell, I would have loved to be riding with you now!

Any ideas ?

Bikers don't greet, especially not somebody riding a small japanese bike.

3 days ago, when I started my first multi-day, solo trip, I enthusiastically greeted every biker I saw - there were a lot of them in Ceres, and on the road to Touwsriver. I stopped greeting anybody on a big adventure bike after about the 10th non-response. A simple head nod would have been ok, I'm not asking anybody to drop their clutch at a robot for me.

That said, a biker redeemed himself yesterday on my way back; I rode into Sutherland looking for the filling station, when I saw a group of riders, I gestured to my fuel tank, and one of them pointed me towards the filling the station. he then came over to have a chat with me, nice.

The only problem with the secret wave is that if the government see you doing it they will offer you a job with R80k a month, a new BMW and 3 body guards as a sign interpreter!!!!

funny this indeed - I noticed a few months back that riding the GSA - I lifted my hand and waved at another BMW rider coming from the waterfront. I saw him 3 days in a row... each time we waved.......... then on a Thursday I took the XT550 down... saw him again - waved and got buggerall back  :patch:  SNOB!!!!!!!!   :lol8:

"HORSEPOWER" is how fast you hit the fence.

Revive a old 80's one!

I like this one!

That's an old surfer greeting.

Been riding on the bike and SUV around Mossel Bay & Klein Karoo the last couple weeks, I always greet a biker, lots of guys in bakkies seem to greet when out on the dirt roads.

Some wave some don't, no big deal.
If You're going through hell, keep going.

I think a thumbs up would suffice then. So when you see a cager with a glum face giving you a thumbs up, smile a wave boys !
