On my way to Namibia in my cage, I spotted a lone biker approaching me. I wound down my window and waved at him, only to wonder : Do bikers have a way of waving at each other to signal that you are a biker too? I would have loved some sort of signal to say : I'm in a car, but hell, I would have loved to be riding with you now!
Any ideas ?
Bikers don't greet, especially not somebody riding a small japanese bike.
3 days ago, when I started my first multi-day, solo trip, I enthusiastically greeted every biker I saw - there were a lot of them in Ceres, and on the road to Touwsriver. I stopped greeting anybody on a big adventure bike after about the 10th non-response. A simple head nod would have been ok, I'm not asking anybody to drop their clutch at a robot for me.
That said, a biker redeemed himself yesterday on my way back; I rode into Sutherland looking for the filling station, when I saw a group of riders, I gestured to my fuel tank, and one of them pointed me towards the filling the station. he then came over to have a chat with me, nice.
