OK – so where do I start?

This would be more than the normal RR as Ou Bees will also write down her experiences during the trip.

Our son, LJ, and his fiancée, whom he met at varsity, informed us earlier the year that they are getting married 18 December in Tulbach at Morgansvlei.

Immediately I started thinking of trips in the Western Cape we can do.  Various options were on the board like the Cederberge, West Coast or the Boland in the whole.

Later the year they asked if they can come and visit after their honeymoon.  BINGO – No problem we said, but would you mind to bring the car back to East London?  Pleasure they said and so all the planning started!!   :deal:   :deal:

ChrisL and Visarend were contacted and routes and ideas were given and shared.  A big thanks to you both for all the help.  Places were booked and the days were counted.  Due to various reasons, I had to “trailer” the bike to Cape Town and I had to get the 2 grandma’s in Cradock.

Saturday, 14 December at 14H00 we left East London for Cradock.  It was a trip of 5 hours (normally 3 hours) due to road works and taxi’s.  At one stage we were the only civilian car between +/- 30 taxi’s.

Looks like "Die Groot Trek" to Cape Town.

Sunday morning we left Cradock for Aberdeen.  We booked at Prins Albert and decided to go from Aberdeen to Prins Albert via Rietbron as I have never there been before.

Aberdeen’s church – I believe it has the highest tower in RSA.

From Aberdeen we did gravel to Prins ALbert.  Ou Bees opening one of the many gates.

We saw various of these:

Rietbron’s main street.

They have a springbok on top of the tower.

We slept at “Sommerso” in Prins Albert and ate like kings at the Swartberg Hotel.

The following morning we showed the grandma’s Meiringspoort and had breakfast in De Rust.

We then moved to Cape Town with the speed of lightning to meet the rest of the family and catch up with the news.

After the wedding we visited various family and listen to all the stories.

Here our granddaughter, Zilke, tells me that she’ll get another “sussie” or “boetie”.  And I had to believe her as her parents confirmed the latter.

DAY 1 – 23 DECEMBER 2013:

Bloubergstrand, Strand, Gordonsbaai, Hermanus, Stanford, Pearly Beach, Elim, Struisbaai, L’Agulhas, Waenhuiskrans, Bredasdorp.

Monday, 23 December and we are up and running as from early in the morning.

The cars are making me mad.  It is as if they don’t want to ride, and the wind is terrible.  I’m nervous as I’m not used to so many cars around me.  I’m also worried about Ou Bees as it would be the longest trip she’ll ever do and if she’ll enjoy the trip.

When we past Gordonsbay it started to get better.  I see Ou Bees is rustig behind me taking kiekies as if she works for one of other news paper  I smiled and thought by myself:  – WAAR IS DIT LEKKER??  HIER IS DIT LEKKER

Dual – I owe you – there were just to many cars and people.

Ou Bees' Experience of the day:

Ry, ry ek!!.

Once we went over the "neck", the wind was calmer.  I think we are passing Pringle Bay.
