Cant believe i have never seen this thread before. And being a great lover/appreciator of churches and cathedrals. Drives my wife mad when we driving along and i stop suddenly cos a church has caught my eye. I can sit in a church all day and just absorb.  I regularly ride to salisbury just to sit in the cathedral and marvel at it.

First up Winchester cathedral : https://www.winchester-cathedral.org.uk/

Here some pics from a recent visit to Winchester cathedral on my RF 600. Was snowing on the way there so cold but well worth the trip. This cathedral is majestic, its absolutely mind numbing how beautiful it is and considering its age and when it was built it just blows the mind.

In the days before London rose to prominence Winchester was actually the seat of power, Alfred the great ruled from here. If memory serves it is the longest cathedral in europe.

For some or other reason it keeps complaining bout size of pics even though they are less than 900kb. so ccan only post small ones, sorry.

While on my trip in Dec I noticed this church on the Elands river road between Uitenhaag and Patensie. It seems it was built on the banks of the sand river, which buried the church in sand and mud when it flooded once? Dunno, guessing here. You can see the sand sandriver dam wall just behind it, don't know which was built first (dam or church).

I don't usually seek out churches to photograph, but if the opportunity arises. I did a short trip at the beginning of January and captured a few on film.

First pic is Heidelberg
Second pic is Riversdale
Third pic is Karatara
Fourth pic is Calitzdorp

Somewhere in last year I had to go to Malgas near Swellendam for work and I decided to take the bike, was surprised to find this little church there next to te river.
