I head through to Prins Albert and look for accommodation. The B&B's are not my style. I want to be away from it all, so I take a drive through town and see a board for the Olienhof camping grouds. It is along the back roads of Prins Albert between the smallholdings.

I get a small cottage with open plan kitchen, dining area, big sleeping area and bathroom, fully kitted for R170,00 for the night. Great value.

I met an Englishman, Steve Nesbit, who is an avid world traveling biker and author, stuck there with a non-compliant GS1150. Fuel supply problems. He had arranged with BMW George to collect the bike, but they could only attend to it after the 27th and he was going to be there for about 2 weeks.

Again, these photos are in limbo somewhere, hopefully to be retrieved by some IT guru.

18 Dec:

After filling up the bike, I drive along the main street and notice a KTM parked at the kerb. I stop, but the rider is nowhere in site so I get going to the Swartberg Pass.

Final destination for the day..................Die Hel, Gamkaskloof.

Just as a matter of interest, Stephen has traveled South Africa hiding gold bullion, coins, etc and recording the GPS locations which will be given to his descendants to find, as an inheritance. Quite a novel idea, I thought. According to him, if the first in line do not want to do it, then it passes onto the next, etc., etc.....................

No matter how many photos you take of this ride, it cannot even nearly describe the experience. It is an amazing ride.  :ricky: :ricky:

As you occasionally glance back and down, you really get a reminder of the climb, and as you look ahead, you get a glimpse of the joy and pleasure that is still coming.

Here are those raised chevrons and the ramp in reverse.

Then is more climbing as the road continues to snake up the mountains.

This photo shows a partial view down to the road below and just gives an inkling of the climb out of The Hell. It is something that I need to do again, maybe this early autumn when the temperatures are a little more temperate.

If you have not doen it yet...............maak 'n plan!!!!!!!!!!!

And it climbs some more, then flattens out and produces a very happy adventure biker on the other side. What more can you ask for?????????

Let me tell you, that helmet, and mine, was full of smile.

There is a river crossing coming up and it is a photo opportunity, so after a short pow-wow about how we are going to do it, I am on my way. On the other side, I get off and take some pics. Mine are lost, unfortunately, but lets hope advwannabe will be updating his RR soon and they will be there.

We had to take it very easy around the corners. There was a lot of traffic.

I was a little off line coming around a corner and there was a white GP Toyota Fortuner coming down at one heck of a lick filling the road from side to side. We were heading straight at each other. There was no way of changing my line, so I grabbed a handful of brakes and hung on. He must have pushed his foot through the floor boards. We came to a stop a mere 2 inches apart.

From there on, I hugged the left of the road even more than before.

Then it flattened out and opened up and we could enjoy some speedy gravel travel on our way to Prins Albert.

You can also glue a small piece of Velcro to the tank and remote and secure with a thin piece of rope to the handle bar. I find that you can work the GoPro remote easier.

I see that this photo of the standard dismounting procedure was on the footage, so I can only surmise that it is being studied by the photographer considering his unusual sequence utilised for the same end result.

I am still not sure.......................is it on?

Remember this, with the attached photo earlier on?

Well there is a reason why I mentioned this as you can see with the photos below. Advwannabe, like me and many others as well, at times, well him more than usual, as I can recollect, had left his Gopro on and it was filming for a loooooong time whilst we were dining at Mix.
