2014 Crash Bars
« on: February 24, 2014, 07:03:27 pm »
Does anyone know if the 2014 crash bars are the same as the 2013? Getting mine on Sat 5 more sleeps  Finally made my choice when people are still complaining about sand in the airbox on the 2014 1190 R :o

Just had the 1000km service and the dude at bmw said the new 2014 models have a different frame and the crash bars are completely different. Read somewhere that its the same as the gsw? I think you can tell by the white shock spring not sure though.

P.S. Die KTM manne se gatte het het gebrand opad buff toe... Dit was nogal warm in die Karoo :laughing4:

Bullshit! I transferred my crash bars from K50 2013 model to 2014 model same as Bikerjan. The frame is identical. May I suggest you get a new dealer?

If however you own the K51 or 2014 GSA then yes, the frame is different to the 2013 GSA. The GSA however comes with crash bars standard so you must have a GS or K50 in which case they will fit.

Read the bottom section where they tell you how to tell the difference

Please note: BMW changed the design for the frame in November 2013. To tell if you need bars for the 2013 or 2014 model, examine the frame tab referenced in steps 5 and 9 in the installation instructions. If your tab has two holes, you’ll need 2013 bars. If your tab has one hole, you’ll need 2014 bars.

Read the bottom section where they tell you how to tell the difference.

My first bike was manufactured in July of 2013 and my second bike in January of 2014. The frame is identical and so are the crash bars.

I struggle to understand how the apparent change made in November of 2014 affects the BMW/Touratech crash bars that both Jan and I transferred from the 2013 to the 2014.

Edit: Unless the change was made in November but only implemented later? Type your VIN number into:
http://www.bmwarchive.org/vin/bmw-vin-decoder.html check the date it was manufactured.

Bike was manufactured in Berlin 07.01.2014

The mac at bmw still went outside asked me which bike was mine looked at frame and said it was the new frame and said they were struggling to get crash bars for the new frames.

Does your bike have a white shock spring?

Yip, white shock springs, steering damper...made Jan 2014.

Edit: I am actually concerned that there was a frame change without announcement. Why change the frame and keep quiet?

You'll probably find this is nothing more than a new and common jig for both GS and GSA models to accommodate the GSA model, which has some differences.
That you're finding GS models with the newer and older frames at the same time is nothing more than using up stock.
Not everything has to have some sinister conspiracy behind it   ::)

I knew if I said anything, no one would believe me, but below is the fisch for the crashbars.

You can decide what you need to believe. I have 2013 crashbars on my 2014, only difference is the new frame has one hole, not two, but the holes match and works.
