What do you mean by least risk?

Given the circumstances, don't go off the track you are on, on the way to your destination, to quickly test your bike and drive over that rock over the side of the road when you know full well you might fall and break something.

test your limits and skills in a veld close to home with people, not on a trip far away from help

Fixed.
Riding alone all the time, I know that too well.

Ek is nie roekeloos nie, net stupid

No worries mate.  :D

Lifestyle buyers love trips the GS challenge

If you're who I think you are, you must be one of them then, as I recall seeing you at the GAGSC last year!

Anyhow Ama I also don't like the big group thing, but I love exploring new places and I'm not reckless out in the woods - also not close to home!

Sorry for the hijack - nice report Kaboef - through my hometown (Riebeeck West)  :D

Kaboef - Also sorry for hijaking your treat. I'm the culprit. But just wanted to say it.

Leon, Yes we met through your friend Johan from Saldanha and yes I was at the 2005 GSC.

My statement regarding lifestyle buyers who go to the GSC does not apply to you and others who are not lifestyle buyers. I used the GSC to state that if you for example organise a trip to the Karoo only max 15 riders of this forum would go. BMW openly stated that the GSC is aimed for one at the lifestyle buyers who bought a GS and full riding gear after seeing their "o so camel man" advertisements but use their bikes for the speed bumps round Sandton.

But if BMW (or Mouton) organise a trip everybody are gone gagga about it. It is interesting to see that everywhere where Mouton advertise his tours likes to states the fact that he is THE famous photographer.

Agree with most of the above. In fact, Mouton (with whom I work occasionally), is a bit pissed at me for not joining any of his trips.

I don't think the money making issue is all that big (it takes a lot of organising and it's reassuring to have the paramedic and sweeper bakkie along) but the groups are simply too big.

Like Droffie and LS (I think) I like the lone ranger thing more. You determine where you go, whether you want to jaag, cruise, stop, smoke, scratch your nose  etc.

As someone once said: Motorcycling is per definition a solitary pursuit.  If you want to do the group thing rather get a kombi, a designated driver and a few cases  of black label.

Mebbe, I'll probably be still around this weekend. Let's take it to the imminent rides section?

And I want one of those stickers. How do I go about it?

He's got access to the nice service roads of the Cishen/Saldanha trailway line - promised me an invite - nice guy.

BTW, his 99 GS1100 with about 36k kms is in the market for about R50k

Is Johan getting that 1150 GSA now that he's selling his 1100?
