The Two Dinosaurs are at it Again (The Sea)
« on: March 13, 2014, 08:07:33 pm »
The Two Dinosaurs Are At It Again.
                                                                    “The Sea”

Do I need to explain??? Okay okay I will, our asses jukking sommer big time as we haven’t done a trip for a while and we have both (me and Ian (Ian in Great Brak River) being leesing and checking out all of the lekker RR’s and photos  of you ouses trips and goed, and we sommer knew it was that time again, We needed to take the bikes out and do some serious riding and to take photos, and to post the RR, to make you ous jealous and that you sommer want to hop on your bikes and take a trip yourselves.

Not to not make this a boring stuk, a quick summery, get kit ready, make sure bikes are A okay and to make sure we have enough necessities for the road.

This would be a winter trip May 2013 as it was the only time we could both be free from our priorities of the daily grind stone, we would meet each other in Colesburg and decide there where we were going to go as we had a few options to consider.
We had decided to just wing it as we go.
1: Namibia to finish our ride to Upupa falls as it has beaten us 2-0 so we have some unfinished business there. see (The two dinosaurs do Namibia)
2: Go to Botswana and the Northern section of Namibia.
3: The Natal coast through Swaziland all the way up to Eastern Transvaal, (Oop’s Mapulanga) then back to Pretoria.

Now Ian would once again be coming down from Great Brak River, and I would as per usual be coming up from Pretoria. Or is it the other way around? Not quite sure. You ous figger it out.

So Ian’s coming down from Great Brak, he has 700 odd km to do. He decides to do some gravel roads to get to Colesburg. Some photos of his route, lucky bugger was doing gravel most of the way. He was heading for Klaarstroom and then would gooi a right onto the R407 to Willomore turn left for Graaf Reinet for a quick pit stop then via the R63 to Colesburg.

Ian having a blast on the sand roads.

He has a passion for historic/ boere stuff so he spends some time here

It was so tranquil that he just sat down and enjoyed his surroundings.

On the road again to meet me in Colesburg.

Now ive got about 900km to do to get to Colesburg from Pretoria as I have once again decided that klerksdorp needs to be visited and I will sleep over at my daughter / son in laws possie. I know, I know, for the ous that have read other RR’s of mine, to stop over in Klerksdorp for the night is never a good idea as I have my main club chapter there. Never get to leave the next morning on time. So Klerksdorp it was, my other two rug rats also went down to visit their sussie. Yip didn’t leave on time the next morning as was still suffering from the affects of the previous night visit, and of course had to say bye to a certain lady friend before I took to the road.

Nothing exciting about my trip to get to Colesburg as I rode tar all the way. Customary ride and stops for smoke breaks, and to have a cold one to sort the head out which was once again not feeling to lekker. For some stupid reason one never learns from some mistakes, but sure is fun making them.(He he)

So I get to Colesburg and book in at the Coniston House and once again old Ian is not there on time. Kit off bike and put in room. Phone Ian to find out where the bloody hell he is. No Luck, so gather his still cruising and can’t hear his phone. Mmm what to do? Can’t go and “Verken” the joint, have already “Verkend” it, as it’s a normal stop over for” me, us” as we meet there a lot. It’s about half way for both of us. What to do? What to do? Then this “Brilliant” idea comes to me (he he) I must go and check out the local scenery. On the Bike and off I go, stop off in the main road by my normal “watering hole” when in that area for a cold one, whilst I wait for Ian. Now for the ous that don’t know me,{ I like a cold one now and then,} for the ous that do know me {we wont speak about it}.  Next thing a phone call from Ian, his running late. (Nothing unusual about that) think he does it on purpose. So what to do? There just aint any lekker scenery walking around. (he he). Oh well will just have to entertain myself with another cold one or two whilst I wait for him. A hour later I hear a bike and walla its Ian. Quickly order us a cold one each as I know that this china of mine is gonna be lekker dors from his trip to get here. Yip I was right, he sommer takes a moerse sluk and then only does he  greet me with this moerse happy smile on his face. {Dam these cold ones are good stuff) We talk some kak whilst we enjoy our cold ones to wash the dust down. Oops no dust yet on my part, only on Ian’s, but me being the good buddy I am, I support him. “Shame” on me if I didn’t help.

Off to our posie and Ian gets his kit off the bike and into his room. So now that question arises again. What to do? What to do? Well seeing that there aint much else to do,  we decide to go and have a cold one and check out the local scenery. ”The trip has started”.

Big discussion on the go and we finally decide on option 3. The other two we will ride another time.
Out with the maps and a general direction of our ride is made.

Go for a lekker supper, by this time you ous should know, a few could ones to settle the meal off properly.
Off to our possie and a lekker nights kip.

Up early next morning and off we go.
We take a ride to the Garieb dam, next time in that area im gonna camp there as they have some mooi places around there.

Now doesn’t this look like a happy ou.

The two steeds rearing to go.

Check out a alternative road to view the possie so we go for it.

Ian really wants to check out the view.

Then its of to Burgersdorp and a quick stop for some supplies.

Love this photo. Son’s name is Albert, he must have been through here before and now they are honoring him.

Then on the bikes   :ricky:   and off we go to enjoy the ride and to check out what nature has to offer. On the way to Koksstad, we go via Maltero-Ugie-Maclear and some other posies.

A dry river bed, amazing how the water has eroded the sand.

The other side, not a trace of the elements, just a spectacular view of what nature has to offer.

Getting on to sunset so we have to find a place for the night.

We do. The 0ld Orchids Guest House. Just outside of Koksstad.

For some stupid reason they sorta put us one side, must be a civi thing.
Went into town to find the Spur, For some stupid reason they hide these places away, so I check this police van and I sommer stop him for directions, his sommer a nice ou and tunes us to follow him, we get to the Spur sommer tjop tjop, this ou must of known we was moerse honger, because he was such a lekker ou, I give him a cold one for all of his trouble, told you ous he was a nice ou as he had a lekker big smile on his face when he took it. Have a lekker graze and a cold one or two to wash down the dust. What dust you ask? Come on just because we on tar doesn’t mean there’s no dust in the air and we did pull off onto the side off the road every now and again to have a smoke break, so there had to be dust.

We both had a few close calls with dogs and goats in the bloody road and a bloody idiot with his cage on the wrong side of the road, had to hit breaks to avoid him. Starting to think that riding gravel roads is safer.

So back to rooms and off to sleep.
Some bloody stupid pigeons woke me up at 06h00 not a happy chappie I was. Hell man I hadn’t even had my morning aah” coffee” yet  :bar:

Place is a bit frozen, so im forced to have a cupper coffee, followed by a cold one to even out the temperature.

Hondas can take the punch.

Yammies on the other hand need to be pampered, they even get their cup of morning coffee. (spose it helps to warm the engine up so it can start easier) (He he).  :coffee2:

Now  :ricky:  cruising down the road we come across this sign.   :laughing7:

Should we go and visit, tell them we are Tough ous, we are Bikers, we are WD,  should we go and corrupt there minds, tell them all about this lekker cruise we having and that they should bye bikes and take to the lekker open roads and drink cold ones to ease the dors and such other lekker gootes. We decide not too as then all off those ous and gooses are gonna want to cruise with us and like we haven’t got enough cold ones to share with them and I don’t actually dig it when I have to share my cold ones with other ous, except if they have cold ones to share back with me, then its sommer okay.

So we hop on the bikes and gooi the throttles open and cruise with a moerse spoed away from the “temptations” that behold us.  :komet:  Port Edward here we come.

We was cruising along in like a tropical type of jungle scenery, when all of a sudden “woof,” the whole lot changes and all a oak checks is the sea and sommer a different type of environment. Got a moerse skrik as I thought that some space dudes had beamed us up to there planet. (He he)

Now Im a ou that hasent got a problem with this out of the world thingies, but my greatest worry is “Have they got Cold Ones” (He he)   :occasion14:

Now Ian has never been to Port Edward, although there aint that much there, but I know the possie so I take him to the beach front.

We take a break and have a cold one and talk some kak as only ous on a bike trip will do.

Mmmm a cold one.

Ian decides to be a bit different and has a, okay I don’t know what you call it. (A pink drink with lotsa ice in it). He sommer tuned me it was very lekker, some times I worry about this buddy of mine.(he he)

So feeling all refreshed from the cold one and that pink stuff.  We head out for Margate. As I have a family member there. A quick stop to say hi.
Ooops!  Forgot to mention, ive been cruising most of the way without a Speedo, so we stop at a bike shop as I schemed the cable had snapped, Nope it wasn’t the cable, the Speedo gear had kissed out on me. No spares available

Oh well cant do any thing about it so we take in the sites and have a lunch and another cold one.

Ian had missed the bike week at Margate, but there was still a lot of talk going on and some signs left.

On the Bikes, and off we go.
We did some site seeing along the road but not worth writing about.

Next stop Hibberdene
We booked in at the caravan site, set up our tents

Ian opted to rus a biekie and “verken” the joint.  :walk:

I went to town to get supplies for a braai and a few take away cold ones..

These cargo nets sure do come in handy.

Then I remembered about The Jolly Roger pub, so I had to go and show my face there and have a cold one or two as all this alone riding made me moerse thirsty.

A nice photo of the Sea.

Back to the camp site to start with the braai, relax and have a few cold ones.

Hondas are tough, getting used as a bloody table.

Mine is so tough it sommer had a cold one. Me thinks the Yammie was a bit jealous. (He he) (Told the Honda not to rub it in as its not the Yammie’s fault that it gets Pampered )

So after a lekker kuier and a good braai, Skaap tjops, wors, Ribbekie and some pita buns, our tummies were lekker full (told you ous im a big eater, well ok Ian also put his share away.) we called it a night and of to zzz land.

Up bright and early the next day pack up, get kit on bikes to take to the roads .

Durban was up next as we were hoping we could get a Speedo drive there, On route as I was following Ian on the highway keeping to his speed. A bloody “idiot” of a traffic officer runs across the road right in front of us causing us to slam on brakes as a cage was speeding and he wanted to stop it. Almost causing us seeing our “gatte” , some ous just aint got no bloody brains or they just plain “dof” No luck in Durbs for a Speedo drive so we took a ride on the beach front and headed off again.

Next stop Richards Bay.
We booked in at the Woodpeckers Inn

Kit off and we go and have a cold one or two, to settle our nerves from all of the dangers off riding “TAR” ( That’s our story and we sticking to it)

Whilst having a cold one I phone an old friend of my daughter. Mary Lee who stays in Richards Bay,

She was basically part of the family (the two were insepretable as youngsters) we had not seen each other for a long time. She gets us at the bar at Woodpeckers Inn. Has a few cold ones with us and we catch up on old times, and then she invites us for a Braai and a few cold ones at her house. Now how can I to refuse a couple of cold ones, (as you ous must know by now ( I enjoy a cold one here and there) Oh!! and a Braai ,so off we go to her possie and meet the hubbie and rug rats. Had a lekker kuier and braai and a few cold ones there. Always a nice visit when there’s good company around. Was getting late so we said our good byes and headed off to our rooms to catch up on some good zzz’s.

Next morning we off to St Lucia. The longest distance traveled in one day on this trip, a whole 116km. Dam it was a tiring ride to get there Ian has never been there so I show him the sites. aah!! The Beach and the estuary.

He decided he first had to “verken” the “possie” from up high.
I think he wanted to do some “Bird” watching.(He he )

Huh! And he didn't even invite me to check out the “Birds” with him, so I scheme to myself, that’s his sommer got a kak ” houden” to want to check out all the “Birds” for him self. So I sommer take a “Trap” back to the bikes, get only me a cold one and take some cool photos and drink the last cold one we had just to spite him.(He he)
The joke was on him as we didn’t check any “Birds”

Mmm check out all that aaah “water” and I haven’t even been in it, so off I go and wait for it wait for it, I wet my boots. ( Pretty Cool hey).

All happy with myself for getting wet, I retreat up the beach.

Only to see this spectacular event. Wind has picked up.

Check out the sand in the air.

Then we off to town to have a lekker lunch and some well needed cold ones. (He he). The days ride was hectic, (116km of it) as well as all that walking on the beach, I mean these things makes a ou moerse dors.

Buy some graze for a lekker braai and some cold ones for relaxation purposes.
We had decided to make use of the caravan park facilities. Pitch tents and set up camp

Dam these bikes are moerse mooi, so I sommer take a few photos of them in the camp site.
