Was lekker to get out the house a bit, thanks Andy!

Everything was lekker except the toss pot Harley crowd....... gawd they make it really difficult to take them seriously.

But a fun day out. Thank you.

Some back  ground on the 9,2 inch guns in WW2

The BL 9.2 inch guns Mk IX and Mk X[5] were British 46.7 calibres naval and coast defence guns in service from 1899 to the 1950s. They had possibly the longest, most varied and successful service history of any British heavy ordnance.

Many thanks to all that attended,

The weather was good , the company fantastic and the Artillery very interesting.

27 Bikes in all,
.
Even Grrr and Pote pitched for the ride!

Well done to all that attended , a very successful day  , I thought ?

Please post your pics and ride reports here ?

I will send a link to Col.Visser , the OC commanding Fort Wynyard , I'm sure you will agree , it was the highlight of the day.
And very well presented too.

On the side conversations there were many remarks and suggestions about our heritage from Settler, Boer Wars to SWA, WW1 & WW2 & the significance of the ordinance lying there....mostly in disrepair.... nice to see though  :thumleft:

Great day in our beautiful peninsular.

Thanks Andy, very interesting and surprising that I've never noticed any of the enormous guns at any of the sites before.

Nice to see the regular faces and some faces to names.

Yes, wnat a lekker ride with many regulars, and then new guys like Grrr.......... :peepwall:

So interesting, yet also sad to see the degree of decay on some of these old historics. Can the Defence force not allow someone like our guide to run the fort as a tourist attraction,
and getting a gate fee, and perhaps donations?

Our very own Celeb, Amageza hero ! Rynet posing on a 9.2 Inch World War 2 Gun.

Now underneath this Gun , to the side , is a Bunker , that housed the shells fired by this huge gun.
There is also a narrow passage around the main bunker , which is made to pic up water seepage and drains off to keep the core dry.

Now while we were exploring underground , superten , hid in this passage and when Fuzzy Muzzy came past with his cell phone , superten gave him a "moerse" fright , good laugh was had but us all in the dark ! Sorry Muz !

2StrokeDan and Pote on the Gun

MANY , MANY THANKS TO COL.BOB VISSER AND HIS TEAM FOR THE BEST TOUR ,
And the Best Tour Guide from The Military Heritage Society,
Very well presented !
