I know we are talking Harley but this is a genuine question for those in the know.

How do Victory cycles compare with the Harleys? I have read a lot of reviews where they are compared and the consensus seems to be that the Victory's are awesome. Personally I do not know enough about either brand to comment but would be interested to get some info from people that know.

Thanks
M

As far as I know Harley's are the only V-twins with the single crank pin arrangement giving that special vibration and potato-potato sound.

I want a 883 sportster so bad. A couple of years ago it was still under R50 000, and even then I couldn't afford it/justify spending that amount on a weekend bike. Now I see they start at almost R100 000. So unless I win the lotto I will have to make do with my 20 year old KTM.

Polaris are like stated above have both Victory and Indian in their stable.

They claim that Indian was the first all American bike (rightfully so) but the 'new' Indian is just a modern 'retro version' and the only real connection between the origional 'indian and now Indian' is the badge and looks. They have been out of business for so many years and this is a very clever move (by Polaris) to take a slice (quite a big one) out of the Harley pie. Both Victory and Indian are stunning bikes, make no mistake but Harley owns that 'Character' and it's 100persent origional and real.

No matter what 'nice looking and good sound' cruiser you ride on, when you ride past any group they will look and remark; 'check that Harley'. Harley became the household name of Cruisers....

Unfortunately HD is also under pressure financially and went to India to produce a new 750 in a new plant (first ever HD plant abroad) to cater for the 3rd world markets. They expect this bike to sell very well in India and Asian markets and is also bringing it to our shore. Pricing should be somewhere in the R70K bracket. I would however stay a bit concervative and rather buy 'American build' HD. Not to sure if the Indian build bike will sell in any numbers over here, as most HD owners are quite quality and even status concerned. What is you guys view on this?

2nd hand ones are quite cheap though, cheap being a relative term..
When I was looking, I fancied the 72, but it was 126k at the time. I bought a '06 XL883 for 1/3  that.

I miss my 1200Sportster...had a full Screaming Eagle performance conversion done on it with some other xtras (think harley's have more xtras than the Beemer 1200ADV). Sold it to make space for a small car for the wife.

My dream harley is the CVO Street glide.
If I am correct this is the standard street glide

Yes Pavlovski, the CVO has dual headlights inside a fairing that is shaped on a downward angle. Looks MEAN! I see a lot of them on that Born to Ride show about Arlen Ness.

Lem that picture is of a Road Glide

Cloudgazer our club president from two years ago, built this bike off a scaled model. all done in SA

The second custom was built in the States, this is his missus riding the bike. She generally does not ride Harleys, mostly road bikes. she normally rides a Buell.

When I was a young boy, a few moons ago, I really wanted an Electra Glide.  Then in 2008 I had 10 days to fill during a work trip to the USA and I decided to ride from Denver to LA.  Road trip, USA, really only one choice of bike, not so?  And the choice I made was to rent an Electra Glide Ultra.  Most comfortable seat on a bike ever, lekker stereo.  Kak brakes and a flexible frame that didn't suit my taste until I started to ride it like the tourer it is.  After that it was really nice.  And I believe the later models have improved much more.  Still haven't bought one but I would be lying if I said I don't occasionally look through the ads for used Harleys.  Need to build that extra garage first though.

Nice one Amsterdam :thumleft: yep 2009 saw a new chassis as well as a new swing arm. Engine was then rubber mounted, and front wheel went to 17" on all touring models except mine, which is the Road King Classic. Braking was also improved and ABS also added to help stopping power.
It made quite a difference to the quality of the ride. Butwhat you said is very true, once you learn to ride it for what it is,you start to enjoy it.

What do you want to know. When it comes to Harley's there is lots to learn, but the knowledge available online is freely available if you willing to read a bit.
