The pass on the Calitzdorp side going down is in a very bad state, washed out with lots of loose rocks, I have never seen it so bad before. On the van Wyksdorp side it is fine.
It's going to be hard work growing over it on a big bike (BMW 1200GS, KTM 1190). I would not recommend trying to do it 2 up at the moment, but then again I suppose you could make you pillion hike a couple of kilos down
