After we desperately trying to get a date that suits all 12 of us, or at least most, we eventually agreed and then it was time to set off to the West coast, a favorite place of mine to recharge away from the city.
The route took us via Malmesbury to Koringberg, where we had breakfast en then the fun started with the first gravel leading us to Sanddrift. (a good descriptive name indeed). One of the highlights of the trip was the road from Sanddrift via Kapteinskloof to Redelinghuys.
It was just outside Redelinghuys that BigEd had his off and due to him owning a peace of land, we sadly had to leave him there with a damaged Transalp and a slightly bruised ego.
Apart from Eds encounter we had two punctures en route to Redlinghuys which took up some time and we progressed slowly to Elandsbay from where took the spoorpad to Lambertsbay. Someone organized for the owner of Supa Quick to repair the punctures properly and we proceeded on the final stage of the journey to Doornbaai, where we arranged to sleep on the beach in front of a cave between Doornbaai and Strandfontien.
Due to a friend in Doornbaai who arranged our kitchen at the cave, we had enough to eat and drink (we were severely dehydrated, you know) that evening and sleep only a few meters from the waves, making music all night long.
The next morning we wake up at our own time with a breathtaking view from the bedroom (or is it tent room), reluctantly preparing for the trip home and took the spoorpad all the way from Doornbaai to Velddrif (or as the locals say Vellerrgrif).
We then rode to Jacobsbaai all along the coast and take a gravel back road from there as a shortcut to Paternoster where we had lunch and headed back home from there in a hell of a strong wind, which added to the final adventure of the ride.
