BMW GS 800 Font Brake disc rattle
« on: March 31, 2014, 02:48:14 pm »
Hi Guys, i am looking at buying a BMW GS 800 , While inspecting the bike i found that the Front Brake disc reasonably loose and rattle. Is this normall to have so much play on front disc.

They are floating discs and are fairly loose.

If one is way more loose than the other there might be something wrong. But without an actual measurement its hard too tell.

It shouldnt "rattle" if it is like the old 11xx series it should move but as I say not rattle 8)

if it rattles - stick to gravel roads, the rattles can't be heard! and go faster so the noise is behind you.

To answer your question, I will have to go and check to see if mine is loose?

Quite normal. It's the KAK idea BMW have with their floating disc arrangement. Would be far better if the calliper floats like the rear brake. Oh, watch that wear. If it gets too much and the loose rivets are clearly farked, then a new disc rotor is in order. ($$$ !!)  You cannot take short cuts on braking components.

Otherwise its a fantastic bike.
