Fortunately I don't have to rely on a monopoly in a democracy.

I'm close enough to  competitive dealers luckily

Should have been in Century City or close by....that location in CT attracts the highest rentals in the CBD....?

Which is happily passed on to the client. Fok weet, eers kon die kerke een nie grander as die ander wees nie, nou se dae is dit bike shops. Dit maak dinge duur.

That area has been derelict for many many years so I think the rentals are much less than you think and certainly lower than Century City and for sure in a much more visible and prominent location. It is also in the most strategic location in terms of being a dealer in Cape Town aaaaaand its only 200m from my office

Race comments like that Daantjie is bit off, As I understand even Yamaha built a very showy display case building where you can see all their products but cannot buy anything...if this is true it is the daftest marketing brainfart only topped by KTM's PR blunder

Bloomsburys in PI has nothing to do with the rent in said location. It happened when Ashleys and Bloomsbury combined their two showrooms in Durban road innie Belleville in and then the bottom fell out of the world economy end 2008, eventually they closed that showroom and Kia moved in

Congrats Donfords.
I have had many BMW cars in both PE and WC. Just took delivery last week of my second Adventure. In fact they were responsible for restoring my faith in the brand again after very poor experiences with the arrogance of SMH, FoursDICKS and the clowns in Claremont.
Well deserved and you get what you pay for - always felt I got the best possible service at fair prices at Donfords - the best BMW dealership in WC by far. Well Done Leon, Niel, John, Donovan,Eugene Janre and team.
Not sure its all official yet.

Good news, rumored for a while, but then there were a good number of other speculations, too!  :)
Nice to have a Dealer close by again, bought a brake switch for the 'Brick this week, and it had to travel from Stellenbosch to Paarden Eiland!
So good news!
Cheers

Well one of the bidders for the dealership are based in Century City. Do not think it is the best move for BMW,but a great opportunity for Donford

Fixed.

I cant see how its going to last. Bike market in CT to small to warrant another dealer.
Why did the Tygervalley branch closed down?

Its a dog eat dog business out there.

How will Donfords manage to run another agency?

As far as I know most of the old Atlantic staff have their feet on the ground again (fortunately). Do Donfords split up their staff or recruit new employees?
Donfords seem to be so bloody busy that they still have not returned my numerous calls and e-mails with regards to parts orders.
(Lynn Schroeder did btw, thanks, lightning fast, efficient and super reliable as I have come to know them over the last 14 years!!!)

Two single brand dealers of one make in CT - not sure if that's going to work long term.
This apparently was an issue for Droomers Yamaha in Bellville.
Suzuki & Kawasaki South is a multi make dealership also selling Aprilia & Guzzi, Hopkins has Triumph under their roof. Renegade gone.
Honda seems to have tied their bike business to the car branches (?) - Why the hell does BMW not do this? I remember some seemingly happy years when BMW cars and bikes were sold and serviced on the same premises (downstairs and upstairs) in Dock Road.
