Interesting change to the oil price, I just had a 30 000 km service done by Northside and the oil is now R100-00 per litre excl VAT.
Anybody else notice the change?

I nearly fell of my chair, a friend had his 1st service done on the new 1200, cost of oil alone was R1700.
Is this normal?

Either your friend was taken for a ride or he exaggerates for effect. The oil is expensive at around R400-R600 for a complete oil change. My 1000km service was about R1200.00 and my 10000km service was R1600.00 which included a few extra bits that I broke during a ride.

Spot on same here, and Shane even replaced a few clips that were missing from my windscreen, I think that happened in the cross winds in Namibia, and after everything I was even re-imbursed for the clips as they were put through on the warrentee!!! Donfords Cape Town ROCKS!!! O0 O0

I need to get a 10 000 KM service done, anyone had this done in the last month? What can I expect to pay, I got two quotes from my local dealers, with a R500 difference in quote! ::)

I would guess about R1800, but the price can vary quite dramatically depending on what oil is used.

Got a quote today for the 1000km service from motorrad pinetowm, R2280.83 :o quote excludes diff oil which the techi said has to be replaced too, hmmmm.

Noticed that they use Liqui Moly Racing 5w/40 and not Castrol, when I queried they said that Ligui Moly was BMW aproved, manual says Castrol. He also said they got a bulletin stating that BMW Motorrad was going over to Shell products from midyear....

I paid R1350 for my 10k. Will see about the 20k in the next few weeks.

That seems a tad high.

I'm not so sure about the diff final drive oil having to be replaced, don't think mine was replaced (although serviced at Bavarian).

agree, see they added an air filter at R380 which seems unnecessary if no off raoding has been done..

Yup, 1000km should be run-in service, i.e. oil only. Air filter at 1000km?? I'd go somewhere else.

Hi All,
Just did a 1,000Km at Bavarian in Centurion.
Total cost incl VAT R1327.37 Incl Oil filter and clean - Oil cost R680.00.
I noted they used Castrol Power 15W50, when I queried it I was advised that with our warmer climate BMW are happy with this oil - the manual is a European spec.

I really don't want to ignite the passions again about which "spec" of oil - simply giving some feedback  ;)
My personal feeling is that it makes sense but in any event the warranty is intact as the motorcycle has been dealer serviced.
As an aside, the service was excellent - thanks to Roger, Bruce and team. :thumleft:
Have a good week all.

I guess it's the old story of Capitalism! Charge what the market will pay, although one would have thought there would be some standardisation with a big brand like BMW!

My Lc adv is not yet due for the 1000k service , but on the previous GSA (2012) the final drive oil was replaced at 1000k.

Serviced in Bloemfontein yesterday R1008 + vat, R240 for installing gear shift assist pro, though it took the better part of 8 hours. Hats of for Riaan and his team.

Not to sound dof what is the gear shift assist pro that you paid R240 for? Is this resetting your gears? Let me know. Thanx
