I think this is one time when one has to agree that the Russians got it wrong
and Sikorsky got it right with his S-64 Sky Crane.
It is pure utilitarian genius:

Sikorsky was born in Kiev, Ukraine.
He fled after the Bolshevist Revolution and eventually got to USA,
where he became a naturalized US citizen.

Is this with upgraded instrumentation? Quite sophisticated for its time. Mig 23 was a more versatile jet though?

Upgrade is subjective here .What is state of the art in Russia may not apply elsewhere

but this work horse of so many air forces is easy to operate and maintain because of its relative simplicity.
