Heads up Castrol Power 1
« on: May 11, 2014, 07:31:43 pm »
I know a couple of owners here use this oil and some dealerships recommends it. I saw this test in Italian but it's pretty straight forward to see what happened here. Not sure how scientific or accurate this test is but it's enough to convince me to swop oils.

I currently use Motul 7100.
Bought 4L for R580 from Midas yesterday (R145/L)

It has a high viscosity rating and good shear stability/resistance  :thumleft:

For the most part, the 7100 is close in performance to the more expensive 300V.

I would love to see a comprehensive test that includes Motorex.

Great video!

After the earlier discussion on Castrol I noted some comments about other guys who tried it who thought that their gearbox was not as slick.

Mine also has never been very smooth, using the same oil - so based on that I tried Repsol fully synthetic 10W50 for my last oil change which they had at Primrose for R150 a liter  :-\.

Must say the gear changes are much smoother now.

So I suppose that's a lesson learned.

I have also heard good things about Amsoil, will try and get pricing on it.

On the gearbox issue, I replaced my Cable man cable with a Motion pro one from the States, and adjusted it correctly, and suddenly I can find neutral when stationary....or maybe at 14000km my gearbox is finally starting to loosen up....either way I am not complaining.

Agree on Diesel oil having to be tough. My wife's B class Merc runs on Mobil 1 Diesel and it has 20 000km service intervals  :o Diesel is tough on oil.
