I'm keen to buy a CRF230 for my Mrs and my 16 year old daughter to learn to ride on. It seems to be based on the old XR200R which was a very forgiving bike to ride.
Any thoughts or advice?
You might not be a Suzuki fan...but don't forget about the Suzuki DR 200 SE, or grey import Djebel DR 200 for the ladies!

If the requirement needs the bike to be road legal, then
, if not, the 230 wins in my opinion.
Remember seat height when making a choice. Low seat height, with both feet flat on the ground, inspires a lot of confidence for a beginner!
The Suzi has an eccentric lower shock mount, allowing one to alter the seat height!
I am not against a Honda. Had both a Twin shock and Pro Link XR 500 R. Suzis have awesome features and excellent built quality! (The DR 650s suspension can also be adjusted! Has 2 lower shock bolt holes, and front fork inners are adjustable!)
No need to spend hard earned moolas on lowering links.
The 230 should have more suspension travel than the DR 200. Better choice if you're going to really rough it off road!
