This is an excellent move by Ducati, and at that price, with that power and weight, they're sure to rain on Triumph's parade just a little.
For those saying it's a poser bike or no good offroad - it's not meant to compete with a Yamaha WR450 or a KTM 1190 Adventure. "Modern classics" - Google it, it's a thing. There's a huge share of the market that want a no-nonsense, retro-styled motorcycle that can go pretty much anywhere and do pretty much anything. And when I say go anywhere, I don't mean tear up the local enduro track - I mean a bike that'll rip up city streets with a nice upright riding position, and tear along fire roads just as happily. Too much emphasis is placed on 21" front wheels and such - not necessary in this context. Poser bike? Maybe, but at least it's reasonably priced, and you're getting a lot of bike for the money. Lurking under that hipster exterior is a good engine and decent suspension - what more could you want?
This bike will pretty much eat up my Kawasaki W650 with that engine in it (claimed 75HP), weighs a claimed 60kg less than a Triumph, and looks damn good. Now it's just a pity Ducati SA aren't getting back to me.
