2014 gs 1200 L C
« on: July 06, 2014, 11:54:57 am »

Hi Fellows

I am the proud owner of my second GS 1200 L C 2014 model. The bike has been for its first service which was done on 1030 km.

I have noticed a strange noise between 3 and 4 thousand revs, sounds like a chain dragging or rubbing against something in the motor.

The bike was booked into the dealer to diagnose the noise as well as the gear box that is very sticky between 3rd and 4th gear on the down change.

Both valve covers where removed by the dealer and i noticed that the chain which runs from the right bank to left bank runs on a chain guide that is not fixed but floated only on the left side of the motor.

Can anybody shed any light on this matter or has any body had similar problems. I have compared my grandsons 2013 LC to my 2014 engine great deal more noisy on the 2014

Regards Coles

A few issues with cam chains failing, apparently running too close to one of the gears, and wearing
All the pins off on the one side.

The 2013 was generally noisier than the 2014. My 2013 got noisy and ultimately the cam chain broke. A few pointers:
1. Make sure your complaints are in writing and sent to your salesman, workshop manager and dealer principle
2. Have BMW Assist collect the bike every time it goes to the dealer
3. State your concerns clearly on the job card

This creates an audit trail in case something goes wrong.
