It's something that I've also been looking into. I wanted something that was short and won't restrict me on dirt roads, but can still take the stuff you need if your riding solo. I also went this route instead of a rack and tailbag on the back, because I don't think the 690 need anymore weight on the back!!
I decided on the Bags Connection enduro light. It's nice and short, fits easily and is excellent quality. It doesn't feel too intrusive, but I'm going to take it for a proper test on Saturday and see if I made the right choice. It takes 5 lt and can extend to 7 l if need be.
I think it's too big for what you're looking for, but just thought I'd share.
A bit too big for my liking yes. Standing it probably won't be an issue but I'd still like to be able to get right to the front of the seat when sitting
Dwerg you must consider one of these handlebar mounted bags....I bought from a forum vendor and really impressed!! Much less obtrusive than a tankbag especially when standing and you dont even know its there!
That's definitely a good option but my problem is that I have a handlebar crossbar with my gps mounted on that in a lockable mount. Unless I can somehow fit my gps on the tower next to the roadbook holder or something, that one won't work
