Not again! Topbox mounting plate cracked 2nd time
« on: July 22, 2014, 03:09:47 pm »
Has this happened to anyone else? Second topbox plate cracked on my LC with Globescout topbox.

Two bolts broken off clean and the lower plate cracked in exactly the same spot as before. I had a trax that did the same on my 800

not enough "meat" on the radius. How thick is that plate? Wouldnt go anything less than 4mm in that application. Same goes for the 800 GS trax plate. Re laser cut a 4mm plate never broken again
Pass this way once!

Sharp corners, that should be a larger radius, any vibrations will eventually cause cracking there.
Bolts shearing off I would put down to quality. Also how much weight are you carrying in the topbox ?

Beebop, Always empty whilst riding, bar a packet of business cards and wallet. Box is filled with the Globescout top box bag. I will again contact the supplier and most likely they will replace. This is just silly to have this happening twice since October last year.

Globescout on my LC did the same. This problem was fixed by GSing one time.
I don't always drop my bike, but when I do, I prefer to drop her in front of a crowd

Get in touch with your dealer, there was replacement plates send to SA, looking at your pics both your brackets are the first edition, which was known for cracking.
