Thanks for the explanation LeCap.

Any input on the plugs not being the same?
 :sign16:
Butt........ They also replaced the both sparkplugs with hotter plugs!! I now have CR9E's in instead of CR10E's.
Can this have such a great effect on consumption??

Oh yes, you have a PM.  :ricky:

Do not use plugs other than CR10E.

If the CR10E is not available try to get CR10EK (That's the twin ground electrode version of the same plug). The CR10EK as far as I remember is used as secondary plug in some twin spark BMW boxers (?) and should be available from BMW dealers. They are rather pricey though :-\ , the CR10E not exactly being a bargain item already.

A (slightly) incorrect spark plug still should not use higher fuel consumption. That's obviously only as long as the engine is running fine.

Thanks LeCap,

Got my DR back and they said everything is still in factory finish.
Neddle, choke, filter everything the way it should be on a brand new DR.

What do you guys get on your DR @ 100km\h and then 140km\h ?
 :-\

I'll have to test my next tank @ 100km\h.

My average fuel consumption is pretty constant at 5l/100km (20km/l). That's for commuting, occasionally a bit of freeway. Not tootling around on the slow jet but no flat out orgies either.

From my experience a healthy DR should not use more than 6.25l of fuel on 100km of open road (that's equivalent to hitting the reserve of the original tank after 160km / 16km/l). I managed this once going down the N2 from CT to Swellendam in a howling Southeater.
At 140 I'd expect the fuel consumption to be like that. Not sure as neither me nor my DR feel happy doing way over 120 for longer periods.
You could possibly use more fuel if the bike is loaded like a donkey or if you do heavy off road.

If you take it easy the fuel consumption drops to 4l/100km (25km/l) and sometimes even less. Experienced on some tours and on a noob ride.

I commuted at 100-110km/h, and would switch to reserve after 180km (standard tank).
Based on Fuelio records, the bike got 4.93/100km on average. Worst was 5.8l/100km.

I suppose you guys down at the coast will get marginally better fuel consumption compared to us up here in. Gauteng with the increased atmosphere pressure.

I average about 19.3 km/l commuting and doing 110km/h.

Another factor that will influence the fuel consumption is the length of your trips. For instance I travel 15km to work and 15km back home. In the winter and cold days I use the choke to start te bike and let it idle for about 30sec to a min. That equates to much more idle time consuming fuel as opposed to a long trip where you use the choke once per full tank of fuel.

My DR is on 6000km now, will the engine loosen up more, i.e. will I see an improvement in fuel consumption as the mileage increase?

Sardine and myself did a ride a few months back , her bike was stock , I was on a mates bike , Scorch silencer , modified airbox , jetted to suit , the route was a mix of dirt and tar , dirt we rode according to conditions and tar was mostly about 110kmh , we both averaged about 21km/l , considering my weight that isn't bad going at all . At some fuel stops I would put in a bit more at others she would put in a bit more . Since then I have done similar mods to her bike and the bike pulls noticeably stronger and economy has improved .
