Please forgive me if there is already a thread long gone that has discussed this subject at length.

I'm not sure how many people know this, but Zero electric motorcycles are now available in South Africa which is interesting, because the Californian-based manufacturer was one of the first names in electric motorcycles and still remains prominent, and have been available in most of the world, but not here. We rode all three of their models a few weeks ago – the road bike, the DS model and the offroad bike, and have done a story in both our mags and put together a short video – https://youtu.be/1v5SnByrM3c

They have a range of 130km if you ride like your hair is on fire with the bike set on full power, and that goes up to as much as 200km if you ride more economically. You can get an extra battery that will boost the range to more than 250km. Recharge time takes 7.9 hours, but you can get booster chargers that can reduce that to about an hour. Obviously this makes them unsuitable for long distance touring, but perhaps they will work well for commutes and shorter journeys.

Offroad & Adventure SA mag is on the shelves or on iChoons:
