But they consulted 2SD on the project and he made it clear as to what was needed to keep up with BMW, so who knows ??? 😃

I read that the 2015 Yamaha R1 is going to produce 230BHP.

Road going R1 = 200.
Some strange beast called R1-M = over 200, possibly 230.

What for? :peepwall:

Valid question IMHO.

I lost it with the manufacturers and their push for ever more powerful superbikes almost 20 years ago. Started buying and riding smaller bikes in 1996 which to me are just as much fun to ride if not even more.

I agree with you   :o

This is market driven, just like DS bikes going bigger, heavier and faster.  It is what the market desires.  It is what sells.  It is what makes them rich.

The car market is much the same. A manufacturer brings out a small reasonably cheap car but each year it just gets bigger and bigger with more accessories until it has become a medium size car and loyal brand/model public just buys it. Then the manufacturer starts again with a new small car.
You can never get lost - you just reach a different destination.
Every road has to lead somewhere - even if it is a dead-end.

For Yamaha to keep up with BMW the Japs will have to scale down too much.

Yamaha, although traditionally known as the king of 2-strokes, have also proven themselves to be superior to all in the 4-stroke world.

BORING!!!!

Superior to who?

The three things you need to fix anything in the universe: duct tape, WD-40 and a hammer.  If it moves and it shouldn't, use the duct tape.  If it doesn't move and it should, use the WD-40.  Otherwise use the hammer.

Must be some serious engineering - a Bugatti Veyron only produces 125 HP / L (1001 HP & 8L Engine) and that's at 16 bar turbo boost!  :o

no ways can those turbos, all four of them, be operating at 16bar boost. Then, the engine will produce, I'm guessing, 4000kW plus, if the engine does not explode.

Very high boost would be 3-4bar

Clearly why they win everything they compete in :peepwall:
Yamaha are kind of like Toyota. Everyone knows they are capable of producing amazing machine but they don't.
They go for moderate performance and focus on reliability.

And I'm talking about their current bikes.
