Team Rhide SA for 2015 Dakar Rally
« on: August 15, 2014, 03:19:28 pm »
I know this is (traditionally) a bike/2-wheel forum, but  I'd like to give you guys some information about SA's quad team, Team Rhide SA, who will be competing in the 2015 Dakar Rally: Brian Baragwanath has won his entry into the event by winning the Dakar Challenge at the Botswana Desert Race earlier this year while Hannes Saaijman has also been chosen to compete. Only 40 quad entries are allowed each year with previous competitors getting preferences... (The entry of a third member, Ted Barbier, has been turned down due to his lack of experience...)
Team Rhide SA (the word RHIDE comes from RHINO...) races to increase Rhino Poaching Awareness.
We believe that both Brian (a former national off-road and Quad MX champion) and Hannes stand a good chance to WIN the category next year!
They are running a 'raffle' to get money for their Dakar venture - if you buy a ticket for R250, you stand a chance to win -
(a) a Yamaha Tenere XT660Z worth R98 000 or
(b) a 2quad/3bike trailer sponsored by Diamond Trailers worth R10 900 or
(c) a 3 night weekend away for you and 3 people at SIMPLY WILD LODGES including 1x Blesbuck hunt worth R5000!
The draw will take place at 8 November at the GOC Year-end Function.
You can also buy a team-shirt (R200)
Please support our quaddies - visit their website (teamrhidesa.com) or their Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/TeamRhideSA) or follow them on Twitter (@TeamrhideSA)
Thank you for your time!
Have a good (safe) weekend...

Welcome to the forum  :thumleft:
We will be following the exploits of all South(ern) Africans, with great interest, so any and all updates on their preparation, training, days leading up to Dakar and more important updates during the actual race, will be most welcome.

And tell Brian he has to get on the podium, just so we can hear what the announcer does to his surname......

I met Brian at the Namaqua, we chatted for a while at the start of the stage that went up the coast. He seemed like a really good oke and his riding speaks for itself. Good luck to both of you guys I will be following and supporting all the way. Go Team Rhide SA!!
