As some of you already know my son Wiehann was involved in a altercation with a truck last Wednesday. He sustained some serious damage to his left shoulder, the arm was almost ripped off. After 10 hours in the theater the surgeons managed to save the arm.

The driver made a u-turn on a blind rise and there was no room for escape.

I was super impressed with the efficiency and professional treatment he received from the 911 staff on the scene.

Today he is feeling a lot better and even managed to take a short walk.

I want to thank all of you who sent good wishes and prayed for him. Many prayers must have gone up for him because the arm made a u-turn just at the rim of the dustbin and came back to him.

Glad he's doing better and kept the arm.

What was the full extent of the injuries and what's the prognosis of his shoulder/arm?

On 7 March I posted this elsewhere.

Today he is more talkative and he has regained some touch sensations in his left hand. The blood flow is good and the appearance of sensation has made me smile.

Damn Colyn..........how unlucky can he be?
He had a few other mishaps before did'nt he?

I feel for you guys. Hope he heals well and have full use of
his arm.

The next shot is of his brother ... after they took him from the ER to the theater.

Here is a shot of his friends when we received the news that they managed to save his arm.

Very glad to hear your son is OK,-must've been one moer of a shock not to be whished upon any parent.

His injuries are ...

Broken Collarbone
Broken Shoulder Blade
Broken Femur
Broken bone in ankle

He did not wear his jacket and I am convinced that would have prevented the severe laceration of his shoulder muscles. What surprised me most was the lack of roasties ... today he told me that the impact threw him high up into the air and he cam down and smacked into the tar and that was it ... no sliding. His helmet has one bad grind spot on the jaw frame and that is all.

He was actually very lucky.

Slowly but surely he is getting more feeling and muscle control in the arm. To me the slightest twitch is huge because I am measuring against the option of the arm in the dustbin.

Well guys ... I cannot tell you how it feels to see your son's blood trickle out onto the tar ... in my mind it is his life trickling away. I just kept on shooting sort of in a daze and did it on semi auto pilot. Good thing I did because the driver filed a brutally skewed report and my shots set that record straight quite rapidly.

Yes ... I did consider re-installing the driver's operating system but sanity prevailed ... I am of no use to my son if I am in jail.

Yes ... as I stated in that TopBike article ... he had his moments

of putting me and his mother through the wringer.

I can only imagine the 2nd worst thing for any parent is to see your child facing/sustaining grave injury with the prospect of losing him (wich is the worst thing).

That day and the past week must have made you a couple of years older...

I asked him that today ... about the "skrik" ... and he said YES ... now I don't know if that answer was drug induced

Hope your son is ok with you posting those pics, Peaches threatened to moer me with her good arm if I posted any of her in ICU, I took no pictures of her at the crash site, but a lot of the scene once she was on her way to hospital.
Good to hear he is going to be ok.
It is vitally important that he start with physio as soon as humanly possible, and stick with it until his arm is ok, his youth is also on his side, he will heal quickly.
