Thanks for posting the cellphone pics of ladder construction Ri. Soon (maybe today) we wll put it together. I cant find any  other knot than a simple overhand to do the trick but it will not slip.

We are having some other msintenance difficulties that needs more urgent attention.

Cant wait to develop and share rest of yesterdays pics 😅

This is a photo merge that I took yesterday from South Rowette down into the Glen. It just gives a wider angle and better scale of how big this area really is. On the far left is a hill this is the North Rowette, then Hacks tooth which is the most common landmark on Gough and then right at the Glen there is a sharp rock standing proud called 'the fid'. To the right is Disney Ridge which joins South Peak (highest on the right) and then Goneydale is lying to the right of all of this. I got the new laptop now in position and will soon start editing the rest of the pics. Just had to do some work in the brown store and rather chuffed that I can still recall working with some equipment which I last used as a child but I do not have enough English here and feel free to translate. (Fixed a 'figuur sagie and did some sheet metal work with an old fashioned 'bliksker' )

23 pm here at Gough Island (01:00 am South Africa) and trying to attach pics but the internet keeps on timing out.
Hope this will upload - The Southern Giant petrels - tube nose scavengers (they can smell pray crazy distances away)
I love these birds - they are actually very beautiful and got quite some character!

Stunning, thanks Tom.

The local lass who does bird rehabilitation had a Giant Petrel the other day. She said it was the easiest bird to feed as he followed her around like a dog.

It was apparently very chuffed on the boat trip out to sea to be released

Yes Frank these birds are very intelligent and they know very well that we will not harm them. I have left my bag in the colony and walked down for more pics along the West coast (just a better angle on Saddle island) and when I came back one was sitting right next to my bag poking the side pocket where my lunch was in. Needless to say we do not feed the wild life but just shows you how strong these 'tube nosed' seabirds can detect scents. They love the eyes and liver of young (deceased) subantarctic fur seals but will not stop there. They serve a very important role in this ecosystem.

Herewith some more:

ps; thanks for the tin shears and scroll saw...just could not recall the English.
Today was a hard physical working day since one of our walk-in cold rooms broke....pok those boxes of frozens can get rather heavy but we did manage to move everything around (made more space in chest freezers and other walk in freezer) and tonight I can chillax with a long glass of wine.

THANK YOU once again for everyone that did contribute to sent me something to make my life more enjoyable here - I really do appreciate it!!  :thumleft:

:) The dark ones are the now fully fledged chics and all will be gone out at sea in the next few days....not many remained and we were just in time to see them

That one with the fluff around the neck is the only one that are behind and rather far behind. Sometimes the adults stop feeding them and we have seen this under some Tristan Albatross chics. Why is not known but it may happen that the adult die due to long line fishing of whatever other reason. May also be young parents...don't know

Sorry I had to modify that post to get the attachements on. Net keeps timing out.

1:  ???

2: Saddle Island (Many Islets around the main island)

3: Albatross plane - Many Tristan Albatross breeds here. The round island count concluded that there were around 1400 Tristan Albatross sighted.

4: We went up here (very steep) at the Western side of the Rowetts
