Ek WAS baie geworry.

Marion Eiland is soos 'n Mushroom se hulle.
Die vulkaniese rots het so 'n pilaar gevorm en die lava het uitgekook en oorgeloop en die eiland gevorm.
As ons nog bietjie langer gebly het het daai pilaar van die eiland dalk gekraak...

Here Kobus was flown out to the field to do some work on the solar repeater station.....I can't remember, did we break it down that year Woody1???

We worked on Marion though

Cornelia with a Wanderer albatross and another albatross with a chic and third picture Cornelia with King penguins on Ships cove beach

We did some elephant seal weighing and we did some tests to see what the penguins were eating

..................and then there was time for a swim in 5 degree Celsius water!!

Marion Island sure was a great experience!

Daai foto op die rekenaar toe jy die ballon opgestuur het is van die Metkassies wat geneem is op my verjaarsdag partytjie.
Hier is die MAL groep aliens...

Omdat daar GEEN bome groei op Marion nie het ons dryfhout opgetel en 'n Kersboom gemaak.
Wonder of hy nog bestaan.... dis mos amper weer daai tyd.

Nope....unfortunately that tree was raided by another team to make gifts from the planks. All those driftwood was either oak or teak that formed part of the construction of Norwegian sealer ships. Back then ships were made from wood, and men from steel!

Dit is darem 'n mooi albatros daai. Lyk amper so groot soos 'n gans. Is hulle gevaarlik? Ek sien sy hou sy snawel so mooi vas...

Translation:

Yes very dangerous. They look so cuddly bud that beak is the only line of defense and I once had to suture the piece between the thumb and finger together of one of the bird biologists! One got to scrub the wound first because these birds eat squid and fish and the don't floss

You got to approach, and gently but firmly grab the beak and then lift. We used to weigh them, we also nursed some injuries obtained behind long line trolling vessels.

The can also not just take off and fly, the need to have wind and will then turn into the wind and start running and open the wings and soar. They can also run on water which is very impressive to see!
